Publisher's summary

William Pepper was James Earl Ray's lawyer in the trial for the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr., and even after Ray's conviction and death, Pepper continues to adamantly argue Ray's innocence. This myth-shattering expose is a revised, updated, and heavily expanded volume of Pepper's original best-selling and critically-acclaimed book of the same name, with 26 years of additional research included. The result reveals dramatic new details of the night of the murder, the trial, and why Ray was chosen to take the fall for an evil conspiracy - a government-sanctioned assassination of our nation's greatest leader.

The Plot to Kill King will release in sync with a feature film adaptation of it that will be directed by Lee Daniels, have Hugh Jackman star as the author, and be produced by Millennium Films. The film will portray Pepper in trial and his proof of an assassination plot masterminded by J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI, the CIA, army intelligence, the mafia, and Memphis police. The plan, according to Pepper, was for a team of United States Army Special Forces snipers to kill King, but just as they were taking aim, a back-up civilian assassin pulled the trigger.

In The Plot to Kill King, Pepper shares the evidence and testimonies that prove that Ray was a fall-guy chosen by those who viewed King as a dangerous revolutionary. His findings make the book one of the most important ones of our time - the uncensored story of the murder of an American hero and disturbing revelations about secret under-workings of the government and how it continues, even today, to obscure and obfuscate the truth.

Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for those interested in history - books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times best seller or a national best seller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Required listening

I am not sure a nation accustomed to fairytales where we are always the good guy can or will listen to the truth. I'm sure glad that I did.

Invisible Mystery Solved

Money for the operation from J. Edgar Hoover's roommate, military assassination team in place, and video of the entire incident taken. Think it's awful that another progressive leader is murdered by a loner? Perhaps one should have a seat, take a deep breath, and get a large glass of libation because James Earl Ray didn't kill Dr. King. William Pepper's recitation of the evidence demonstrating the existence of a conspiracy successfully killing Dr. King is overwhelming. If one thought conspiracies only happen in fairytales, this book is worldview changing.

very important but hyperbolic

Dr. Pepper has done decades-long work on this execution of Dr. King and I appreciate all he has done. I think his work loses some of its power in the emotion he brings into the text-too many first introductions involve people weeping (understandable, but need not be written)- and his poetry at the beginning of each chapter does not add.
This book is redundant with much of his prior work as well.
All that noted, this should be required reading, and he deserves honor for all he has done to expose this.

Thoroughly researched, devastating conclusions.

Amazing research from someone close to all the key players. I never found it boring but it does repeat itself several times for clarity's sake. It lays out the "accepted story" and then dismantles it. Then it lays out the various theories and finds the most likely path to our awful fate.

Excellent

Detailed and supported. Totally tied the information together that provides the answer to what happened to MLK. Unfortunately the truth means nothing anymore. To many people and organizations would look bad if it was actually believed so knock it down

Difficult to swallow, some teeth-clenching parts

Overall know that you're signing up for an opinion that can at times feel conspiratorial. Regardless of the objective facts surrounding the incident, this perspective of the history is interesting. If the facts can be substantiated (some of which are much shorter leaps than others) the narrative is extremely compelling. I had no real opinion going into the book, meaning the burden of proof was more toward "changing my mind" away from the official narrative. However, the book did call to my attention that a civil case did find culpability for King's death in the hands of someone outside of James Earl Ray, and once I discovered that I took a less skeptical position toward the rest of the material.

The performance was fine throughout however portions of the book are recounted witness statements from depositions or court which, when read to the word, are _grating_ on the ears and brain. Those portions feel spread throughout and while brief, are still rough to listen to.

Repetitive

Great story that was repeated over and over again throughout the book; several times I felt like I was in Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day.

I understand the importance of recapping an event, but to use the same exact verbiage to do so leaves the reader questioning if they forgot to mark the page for which he or she left off.

Great story, but feel the author was stretching his words out, through previous books and repetition on thus one, in order to sell another book on a subject he has written about twice before.

The Untold Story of King and James Earl Ray.

The lawyer for James Earl Ray reveals who really killed Martin Luther King, Jr. Both he and the King Family believe the King assassin did not murder the civil rights icon and the government systematically lied to them.

Assassination of MLK by Gov

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes with the caveat that it has Marxist propaganda.

If you’ve listened to books by Dr. William F. Pepper Esq. before, how does this one compare?

no

Which character – as performed by Noah Michael Levine – was your favorite?

none

Do you think The Plot to Kill King needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

no

Any additional comments?

The assassination if similar to other CIA assassinations of both communists an non-communists, all designed to serve the interests of those in power at the time and using the aid of those who had grudges to motivate their participation. See The Lost Mandate of Heaven by Geoffrey Shaw about the assassination of S. Vietnamese president and role of Harriman and the press.
