The questioning of apparent certainties or "known knowns" can be fascinating and, indeed, "What if?" books are very popular. However, this speculative approach, known as counterfactualism, has had limited impact in academic histories, historiography, and the teaching of historical methods. Don't Judge this Academic Treatise by its Intriguing Cover Drawing
What if this book was a series of stories about alternative historical events instead of a highly detailed political science treatise on "counter factual" analysis? Then, I would have listened to the book I expected instead of the one I got. My fault for being suckered by the blimp on the cover. Very dry stuff that probably meets high academic standards but know you are getting a lecture series for a war college curriculum.
