Publisher's summary

Battle: The Story of the Bulge, John Toland's first work of military history, recounts the saga of beleaguered American troops as they resisted Hitler's deadly counter offensive in World War II's Battle of the Bulge - and turned it into an Allied victory. It is a gripping work, painstakingly researched and imbued with such vivid detail that listeners will feel as though they themselves witnessed these events. This is a book not to be missed by anyone interested in this tumultuous era of our world's history.

Top notch

This nonfiction account is told in a very entertaining way & the reader is as good as their is.
About the 126 captives executed my understanding is they were from a African American regiment & if so it should have been noted along with the fact that for many years after WW1 the French brought in Black Africans from their African colony & allowed them to Rape German women in occupied west Germany without consequence.
The Battle is a fair account with this one exception however still 5 stars.

The Battle of the Bulge

long has the story's of the Bulge been told and movies have been made recalling this historic battle, but the telling of this epic battle will take you through eye whiteness accounts and of the individual memoirs that have been recounted and told as remembered. the telling of this story is a riveting account of history if it was a book you could not put it down for it would be a page turner. Great narration, Great story a must listening for any historical buff.

An Important History

Great tribute to the American soldier and our military leadership. It illustrates why this is rightly acknowledged as the Greatest Generation.

Enjoyed the depth.

The many personal stories made this relatable. Also presented Patton as a much more humane person who really cared for his men.

Superb book and excellent narration

This book was informative, historical, and riveting. It was so well written. I could more clearly see the images in my mind than any picture I've seen. I was sitting on the edge of my seat while listening. I was glad to hear the narrator read the author's brief description of the long trail of POW's walking out of the St. Vith area toward Germany on Christmas Day in 1944. My father-in-law was one of them. He was a navigator on a bomber that was returning from a bomb run in Germany and was shot down. I did not realize how close he was to the Americans when he landed. When he parachuted out of his plane, 3 engines were gone and he lost his boots on the way down. He had to pull rank on another POW to get a pair of boots. The other guy had boots on his feet and an extra pair around his neck. My father-in-law was 23 years old. He walked to Barth, Germany and stayed at the POW camp until the allies came through. My father-in-law turned 95 in March and passed away this May. Thank you John Toland for remembering the many who fought and died in the Battle of the Bulge.

A Moving Account

This work is not only well done but it is a moving account of life and death. War is hell and I truly doubt that there were many atheists in the foxholes during these terrible days. While I did enjoy the stories, I found that evil is real, and only God, and good people can stop true evil.
