I found it excellent book starting with Chicago's origins and ending with the metropolis that is Chicago at the end of the 19th Century. Then coming to modern city.

My dreamland the Chicago city.
I just moved to my dreamland, the Chicago city, all though I have known and loved the town for many years. This book is a great coffee table intro and a very reasonable price. Additionally, yes it gave me many new things to live in the city with peace.

entertaining, but glosses over or omits key points
enjoyed this book, but noticed it glosses over some key points. the author clearly favors Richard M Daily and never mentioned objections to his leadership choices. also, the objections to the Obama presidential library location were never mentioned. it is a brief history, so choices had to be made as to what to include.

If you love history you will love this
Actual motivating and chalk full of unidentified details of the people in their lives during this period. This author is my favorite historical author I am amazed at how many little details she is able to find and how much more interesting it makes each book. I listened to this book and enjoyed the reader as well.

This is for you...
Very nice book. It is in superb descriptions as advertised. The text, not surprisingly, is dry. Nonetheless, the period descriptions are superb especially when placed in juxtaposition of the current day views of the same scene. It was definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Some people love it, some hate it.
I found somewhat supernatural about Chicago so some people love it but there are also others who hate it. Considering it from a historical perspective, it is important to America. Always thought to be the heartland of America and by some the midway point between east and west. The book is a good read for those who have interest in the subject.
