Short and clean

Any additional comments?

A collection of stories about four sisters who want to marry military officers and what they have to go through to find one. I really enjoyed the first story the sister is more of a tomboy and wants a man to take her as she is not trying to change her. The other stories are good but I didn’t enjoy them as much as I did the first one. I think they were out of line and would have been better if each story follow the one after it. I got a little confused book 3 I think should have been in the place of book 2 as things happened is one that you were sure took place right after the first book.

Ms. Stephens narration was good there were a few places I didn’t like her character voice but all in all she did a good job. Was not any background noise or any change in volume throughout the audio. She has good tones and pitch for the most part with wonderful emotions that shows throughout the listen. There are no repeats of words or wording, if any breaks were taken I could not tell. Her male voices were just as nice as her female ones which she puts lots of emotion in. I would really enjoy listening to more of her work to get more of a feel of her. I thought her performance was very good and has no trouble carrying out what the story calls for.

I thought only wanting a military officer was a little much but believable. After the first story the rest pretty much followed the same guide lines. Not much of a surprised. I did get a little confused one sister liked dresses but in the next book she wanted to wear pants. It was an enjoyable read but for me after the second story it just all blend together with the others.

3.5* - light Western historical mini-romances

Any additional comments?

This is a collection of four short stories situated in the post-Civil War American west. I enjoyed the stories, mindful that with short stories there is almost no opportunity for plot or character development. That's one of the reasons why I didn't give this collection a higher rating, however. I found that the romance progressed too quickly and sometimes the heroines (or heroes) experienced significant attitude adjustments that left me scratching my head. In the final installment (Marigold's story), I especially noticed it with the hero's attitude. I wasn't sure that he even liked her for pretty much the whole story, and then, wham! he proposed to her without really explaining why he 'blew hot and cold'. I had other head-scratching moments in the other stories as well, but again, I'm sure that if these were full-length novels the author would have had an opportunity to develop the story lines with better flow. Short stories are tricky to craft (which is why I've never tried to write one!).

The other reason why I didn't give this audiobook more stars was because of the narration. It's a theme that I return to in most of my audiobook reviews -- how effectively can a narrator voice other genders? Also, does the narrator sound authentic to the tone of the story itself? I think this narrator would do a splendid job with non-fiction audiobooks, but her voice didn't really align well with the image I have in my mind of romance storyteller's voice. Some of her male voices were better than others, in my opinion. The male voices in the introduction didn't really work well in my mind (too fake-sounding), so I ended up playing much of the remaining audiobook at a higher playback speed and focused on the story rather than the narration.

I provided my opinion in exchange for a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author, narrator, or publisher.

Sweet Clean Romances

Any additional comments?

Historical Romance Collection was four short western romances about the Fields sisters of Arizona and how they found love. The stories were all clean romances and very enjoyable to listen to. The narration was well done and I would recommend this.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.

4 Short Sweet Innocent Romances ツ

Historical romance collection

Kathleen Hope

This collection contains the stories of four out of five sisters (each named after a flower; Magnolia, Rose, Violet & Lavender)

Each is about an hour long and is a simple, sweet historical story that ends promptly with a "The End".

Theresa Stevens' narration is good solid. Her performance of each of the sisters was unique, considering there were 5 or more characters the same age. Great job.

I wonder if if Kathleen Hope will eventually include Daisy's story along with her sisters with time.

As I stated, very simple Romance collection with nothing to warn the listener about. Enjoy!

Four Sisters in the West and how they wed

This book tells the story of 4 sisters who have moved out west with their family to be ranchers. The young ladies are now looking for husbands and have found some likely candidates among the soldiers and officers stationed at the nearby garrison.

Plots include a sister who is mistaken as a man when she dresses and races horses as a man; a sister who is looking for an officer to marry but is intrigued by an private; a sister who isn't afraid to wear pants and enjoy life and clearly doesn't meet the expectations of the officer who has caught her eye; finally a sister who isn't sure if the officer calling on her is interested in her or is using her to get to her sisters.

I found it a bit confusing when the timeline from the stories overlapped and I wasn't sure if what I heard in the previous story had already happened in the current story or not.

The characterizations of the sisters is well done, however I felt the other characters in the story were a bit flat.

Clean, light, quick read.

Any additional comments?

This is a quick listen about the fields sisters and the men they meet. Each sister has her own struggle. I liked the fact that they are different in character and each story is different.
I would recommend this to people who love a quick, clean read.

Love Historical & Western Romance Novels

Not sure how to start, I enjoyed this collection but at times found the storyline repetitive. The narrative was enjoyable but it did take me a little while to warm up to it, it did come across more as reading to me rather than performing. In all fairness I think that has a lot to do with the way the book is written. And fyi: No need to read out all credits and chapters

Four short and sweet stories

There are four stories in the book, each one follows a daughter in the family except for the youngest who doesn't have a story being only 17.

The four stories all relate to each other and occur within similar time frames so they overlap for large sections, but give different viewpoints of what is occurring.

I've read a few Kathleen Hope novels and these short stories as just as well written as the full length novels.

The narration was good, some of the character voices were hard to distinguish from each other but when the story has 5 daughters with the same accent it must be tough to do the voices.

4 Sweet Stories

I have not listened to many western historical romances. I was attracted to this one as the females from one family raise horses (specifically thoroughbred's crossed with Mustangs from the Salt River). Each story is a standalone, but the characters are woven together as they share their struggles. The books are clean romances and appropriate for their time period. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher. I would place my rating at 4 1/2 stars overall and the same for performance and story. I appreciate more heat/steam in my books (none here), but really enjoyed these stories. My review is not a synopsis of each book, but rather my opinion of the collection.
