Publisher's summary

Sarah Miller hasn't been home in seven years. She thought she could stay away forever. If it wasn't for her big brother's wedding, that is. Part of her even feels silly for staying away this long. It's not like anyone even knew what happened. Well, except for him. That guy.

The one she compared all others to. The one who set the bar so high no other guy after him could even compete. The one who made her feel like anything was possible. The one she thought she would never be good enough for. The one she spent the last seven years trying to forget. All she needs to do is make it through the next week without running into him.

Enjoyed this one!

I was offered a free copy of this book for my honest opinion.
I give this book 4 stars! This book was very sweet. I loved how it developed. This book took me on a journey of how 2 people meet fall in love and then something stupid gets in the way. Do “True Love “ win? You’ll have to read it to find out.

It was better than ok but I didn't like it.

Any additional comments?

I listened to the audio book. Axel is the first book in the Corps Security Series. There are 6 books in the series. It is told from Izzy and Axel’s POV.

I would issue major trigger warning for domestic abuse for this book. The scenes do set up the story are a sick reminder of being abused.

This is a story of second chance love. Izzy has had it rough twelve years. She’s finally doing better when Axel barges back into her life. Axel is of course the perfect male with glossy black hair and emerald eyes. He stands at 6’6” with a rock hard body. He’s definitely an alpha male going on. He’s aggressive and possessive.

The drama of Izzy and Axel were choking at times. The story has a bit of a thriller in it that helped move the storyline along. I might consider reading another in the series. I really want to hear Maddox story.

As far as the audio book, Abby Craden was an excellent narrator. Her voice really portrayed the emotions. Sean Crisden’s narration wasn’t for me. My husband heard his voice and called it creepy. I had to stop listening to it and finished on my Kindle because his voice was ruining the story.

I didn’t base the story’s review on the audio book. The book was more than “It’s okay” but not a solid “I liked it.” 3.5 stars

High School Romance that Never Fades

The book is in dual viewpoints and spans senior year and then a gap of 7 years. It shows how a misunderstanding and rash decisions can lead to dyer circumstances and lost time. Both books in this duology are great reads. Enjoy

Love it!

Would you listen to Him again? Why?

Yes, I love stories like this, it's so romantic. It's what love is all about, people today forget the true meaning of love these days.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both Will and Sarah. Will, for not giving up on true love. For Sarah, learning how to live without Will for 7 years, but keeping her love real for Will.

Which scene was your favorite?

Sarah's brother wedding day. When her brother had to see his finance before the wedding ceremony and the words he shared with her. It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The brother and sister bond. Also, the love that Sarah & Will felt for one another.

Any additional comments?

The only thing wrong with this book, I didn't like how it ended. I felt it was rushed, there were a lot of missing parts but I guess we have to read the 2nd book to find out Will's side. But overall it's worth getting.

Him and Her

First - the narrator.
Ms. Rivers has a pleasant female voice and is very good when it comes to the male roles. There is a definite lower, almost smokey sound to Will. I enjoyed listening to her many voices.
Now to the story itself.
I was on the verge of wanting to find the gas pedal to this book; it moved soooo slowwww. To the point it became boring real quick, to much repeat of each scenario.
There was also the fact that too many of the secondary characters were under developed such as Sawyer, Will’s ex girlfriend, the 2 guys in Denver. etc.
The reader never found out much about their background, just basic superficial stuff.
Then there is Vanessa, the rich high school girl that shows Sarah a text sent from Will’s phone saying he was going to break up with Sarah and get back together with her.
A text from his phone, that was never discussed again. Who go ahold of his phone?, who sent the text?
Add seven years and Sarah just happened to see Vanessa working the service desk at a store while shopping for her brother’s wedding gift. Really?
Sarah was the typical immature 18 year old, runs away from problems, doesn’t address issues, relationships, etc. It was hard to believe she ran a company that aided companies with financial assistance in filling out paper work, setting up benefit plans, that she definitely would need very good communication skills, but dodged Will at every turn to discuss “the why”. Mature much???
This had potential, but unfortunately I felt like there was 50 miles to travel but only enough gas in the car to make it half way.

DISAPPOINTING

I saw reviews and felt this was something I would like, I stayed through the whole book but felt like it was lacking. Granted, the last chapter or two had some sort of glitch and I couldnt listen to them, honestly, I wasnt all that dissapointed. Lucky for me, or unlucky, the second book is the same as the first, just from his perspective. There was no real excitement for me, it was okay, but I like some sort of drama/adventure/mystery. This just didnt cut it for me.

overcoming high school angst at it's best

Sarah and Will brought back so many wonderful memories of my high school sweetie, whom I'm also married to. lol This story really emphasized the importance of communicating with the people you care for. I felt bad for these two that so many years had passed by based on someone else's petty jealousy and a parents judgemental attitude. Kudos to Will for never giving up!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I liked the story line and the narration was perfect, but it was a bit slow at some parts..... The hot scenes could have been a little bit more detailed......

3.5 Stars

These are the reviews I am not sure what to write. I really like Lucy Rivers as a narrator; she always makes you feel a part of the story.
For me the story was just ok. Nothing really stood out for me. I wanted to like it more than I do. It was well written.
Usually I am not a fan of the back and forth from past to present but this book it was seamless. The story never felt like it paused.
Sarah is a runner, when things get hard or if she isn't ready for the outcome she runs.
Will I found to be an ok guy? I wanted him to be so much more. I think I am a little disappointed, maybe because he didn't fight enough for Sarah.
I wouldn't call it a cliff-hanger because the story just drops off, to me a cliff-hanger leaves you wanting, wanting, wanting, or needing more.

Overall a good listen, I am still glad I upgraded the whisper sync.
