Publisher's Summary

The Lockhart brothers' quest for an ancient family heirloom has proved fruitless...and an unpaid loan has left them indebted to their rival, Payton Douglas. With no recourse, the Lockharts offer Payton their most valuable commodity: their sister Mared's hand in marriage. Raised to despise the Douglas name, Mared outwardly agrees to the marital bargain for the sake of her family; secretly, she concocts a plan to ensure Payton will not wish to marry her. Seeing the handsome, virile laird Payton face-to-face, however, threatens a centuries-long enmity - and awakens Mared's deepest desires. But she will not be swayed. Choosing to repay her family's debt by working as his housekeeper instead of wedding him, she finds herself inexorably drawn to the man she vowed to resist. Then a profound discovery changes everything....

Now, no longer bound by a promise to her family, Mared must let her heart decide if the laird Payton is the enemy of past legend - or if he holds the key to a future filled with a passion beyond her wildest dreams.

I have followed this series all the way up to this book which is number three at the end of This book it announces that there is a part two of this book I cannot find it anywhere that really sucks that you can't finish the story because there's a book missing I've even checked the internet for the book and cannot find a mention of it how are you supposed to finish out a story if you're missing an entire book out of the series a book that you mentioned

Very good

Loved the stubbornness of the woman and the fortitude of Peyton. I laughed so much at the things she does to get even with him all the while never realizing how in love she was. Surprises twists and turns make this book interesting and so enjoyable. I love the way you are taken along the ride.

Glad it was included...

I HATED this female protagonist. She was petulant and selfish. Immature and lazy. I have read my fair share of *dime* store romances but have never disliked a female lead more than this one. Tolerable for free but not worth a credit.

Heroine?

This series is well written and the narration is above average. I find myself struggling with all three heroines. All three are spoiled rotten shrews throughout the vast majority of these books. The fact that the hero's fall for them is somewhat unbelievable. If only the heroines realized their horrible behavior was wrong I could swallow their supposed redemption.
It's possible that I just have too high a standard for the treatment of others and this is more realistic.

Relationship Angst!

Any additional comments?

The roller coaster was too much for me. All the yelling and anger about clan feuds was something I couldn't relate to, as much as, I liked the character of Paton. I'm luke warm about Anne Flosnik as a narrator for this genre (not a sexy voice to me).

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I loved Merid’s personality. Found this humerous and enchanting. Anne Flosnick is my all time favorite narrator! I wish I could tell her that!

Marginal

Mared was so annoying. She really grated on my nerves. She was entirely too selfish and stubborn. Felt really sorry for Peyton. She made him look like a simpering whimp. Someone should have taken her to task long before the end of the book or dropped the frustrating imp!

A fine distraction, aye.

I love a Scottish Brough as long as it sounds authentic. Ms. Flosnik does an excellent job with the variety of accents, as well as various voices of the characters... for the entireLackland siblings trilogy.

I enjoyed the story for the most part. It was as I had expected. I was pleased that the location returned to the Highlands from England. The intimate moments were a little risqué for Regency era settings, but they were part of the story, not just gratuitous sex scenes. I did take exception to the some of the female leads of the trilogy, especially this one. There is a difference between strong independent women and an out right butch. She fell on the harsh side of the line more often than not. Otherwise it was a fine distraction, aye!

Best in the series. Great storyline.

Loved it. favorite of the highlander series. Listen to it, once entirely, and twice more of just my favorite parts in a 36 hour period. It is that good.
