That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. In this, his first audiobook ever, Newhart gives his brilliant and bemused twist on a multitude of topics, including flying, the trials of a family holiday in a Winnebago, and more serious subjects, such as golf. And, of course, there are side-splittingly funny stories from his life and career. Who else has a drinking game named after him? ("Hi, Bob!")

"Here is Betty White - a woman who has been on television forever!" is generally how Betty White is introduced. And quite accurately, too, since she first appeared in 1949, when both she and television were rank beginners. Since then, she has had one of the most amazing careers in TV, winning five Emmy awards, creating such unforgettable characters as Sue Ann Nivens and Rose Nylund, and appearing in a host of television classics.

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like ""Buying the Plot"" and ""Nodding Off,"" Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever ""test positive for Maalox""), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (""the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac""); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

Our favorite moments from Hi Bob!
About the Creator and Performer
Bob Newhart has been entertaining the English-speaking world for more than half a century. A recording of his early standup routines hit a nerve and became a huge best seller in 1960, winning multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist. That led to starring roles in two of TV’s top comedy series, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart. He’s enjoyed a lifetime of TV prominence and accolades, including the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, induction into the TV Academy’s Hall of Fame, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Hall of Fame honor, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Bob has a recurring role on the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, for which he won his first-ever Emmy Award. He has appeared in over 14 feature films, is a regular headliner at concert venues around the country, and inspired Loyola University Chicago to unveil The Newhart Family Theatre.
About the Performer
Will Ferrell is a widely recognized comedian, actor, producer, and writer beloved by kids and adults alike. He got his first big comedy gig as a Saturday Night Live cast member and went on to achieve international stardom with box office hits like Elf, Blades of Glory, and The Lego Movie. He also received critical acclaim for films such as Stranger than Fiction and Everything Must Go. Ferrell has won various awards for his outstanding work in the comedy world, including MTV’s Comedic Genius Award.
About the Performer
Emmy-award winning actress, writer, producer, and sitcom royalty Lisa Kudrow got her first taste for sketch comedy as a young performer in the late '80s, when she joined LA’s famed improv group The Groundlings. Kudrow’s breakthrough role came in 1994 as the incomparable Phoebe Buffay on NBC’s Friends, where she became a comedic world phenomenon. At the same time, her roles in films such as Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and The Opposite of Sex, granted her both cult actress status and box-office success. After the massive success of Friends, Kudrow kept her momentum going playing a has-been sitcom actor in HBO’s critically acclaimed show The Comeback.
About the Performer
Conan O’Brien is an Emmy Award-winning master of smart-alecky monologue best known for his work as the host of Late Night with Conan O’Brien (1993-2009) and his ongoing run on TBS’s popular Conan. He broke into comedy as a writer for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, creating what many fans of the series consider to be among its best episodes ("Marge vs. the Monorail," "Homer Goes to College"). O’Brien attended Harvard University, where he earned the distinction of being elected president of The Harvard Lampoon twice—a feat previously claimed by only one other person: humorist Robert Benchley in 1912.
About the Performer
Jimmy Kimmel is the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a staple of late-night television comedy and banter, which premiered on ABC in 2003 and won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Talk Show in 2018. Launching his career on talk radio, he made his TV debut on Comedy Central as co-host of the game show Win Ben Stein’s Money. A sought-after master of ceremonies, Kimmel hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2012 and 2016, and the Oscars in 2017 and 2018.
About the Performer
Judd Apatow is one of comedy’s most prolific forces, with a long and impressive record of success as a producer, director, writer, and actor. He is the founder of Apatow Productions, through which he produced and developed hit television series including Freaks and Geeks and Girls, and directed box office smashes including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Trainwreck. His numerous motion picture producing credits include The Cable Guy, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bridesmaids, and The Big Sick.
About the Performer
Two-time Emmy Award winner Sarah Silverman is one of the most versatile talents in entertainment. She currently serves as creator, executive producer, and host of the Emmy nominated I Love You, America, the weekly half-hour topical show streaming now on Hulu. Previously, she appeared opposite Emma Stone and Steve Carell in the film Battle of the Sexes and starred in I Smile Back, a role that earned her critical praise and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. Her latest stand-up special, Sarah Silverman: A Speck of Dust, premiered on Netflix in May 2017 and culminated in nominations at the Emmy Awards and 60th Grammy Awards. Additionally, she will return as the voice of Vanellope in the highly anticipated Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 which Disney will release internationally on November 21, 2018. She also continues to lend her voice to the Emmy Award-winning Fox animated series Bob’s Burgers and is a part of JASH, a comedy collective on YouTube featuring original content by Silverman and friends Michael Cera, Tim & Eric, and Reggie Watts.

The conversations between Newhart and his friends are nice. But what I really enjoyed were the old clips that were included. It was so much fun hearing Newhart talk about his long time best friend Don Rickles, and then hearing a clip of Rickles on the Johnny Carson show, or doing his act in Vegas.
It doesn’t stop there, there were also clips from Jack Benny, Newhart’s comedy album from 1960, and clips from his two TV shows.
A bit slow in some sections perhaps, but overall a thoughtfully produced Audible Original.

Leaves You Wanting More
Bob Newhart is a living legend and the reverence he is treated by the people he interviews is great to hear. The stories are great and the unique editing makes it an easy listen. I took it in in one sitting and couldn't believe I'd been listing for three-and-a-half hours plus when it ended. Hoping for more "Hi Bob!"!

Won me over!
I was never a Newhart TV fan, but I found this series of conversations charming. It was also great to get the insider story from several of yesterday's and today's top comedians.

One of my favorite listens of the year
This was one of my favorite listens of the year, hands down. Prior to this I knew of Bob Newhart as his character on The Big Bang Theory, that was all. I had no idea he was this incredibly warm comedian who had won so many awards. I have always been a fan of multiple narrators but this is mostly conversations between Bob and his friends, who also happen to be comedians. There are parts that are laugh out loud funny and others that have you contemplating the meaning of life. All in all I love the format, the content, and the narration. It really feels as if you are in someone's living room listening to Bob talk to friends of his.

No more needs to be said. Except they make you write 15. So there. Fifteen.

Entertaining
I really enjoyed this audio book. It was an eye opener for me how much effort goes into stand up comedy. It also had me laughing at times. Thanks for sharing Bob.

Unfunny
What is this supposed to be? Very little Bob Newhart just lots of other people talking about how they come to know him. Not amusing at all.

Great to “ talk/listen” to Bob & friends for 3 hrs and a bit
I thought it was amazing, all except what I can only imagine was the routine that didn’t finish with wrap-up or punchline....the charity/emcee skimming scan at end must have been a bit-gone-bad.

This could have been so great.
Everything about this could have been extraordinary, if they’d only just let us listen to the entire conversations, one after the other. Instead of all that chopping and changing. It felt like a really long trailer for another show.
Such a pity.

Relaxed, engaging, entertaining and enlightening
Felt as though I was Bob's guest for a front porch chat with a few invited guests.
