Editorial reviews

Why do some people seem incapable of forming lasting relationships? This audiobook argues that people who frequently find themselves in short, unsatisfying unions often have unexplored commitment issues they need to address. In firm but reassuring tones, performer Kevin Young presents the authors' findings, drawn from hundreds of interviews, which show relationship problems may be less about your partners and more about you. The authors also share helpful strategies to identify, understand, and resolve your issues so that you can be free to pursue the deep and sustained love you deserve.

Publisher's summary

Available for the first time in audiobook, this follow-up to the phenomenally successful Men Who Can't Love tackles the issue of commitment phobia, that persistent obstacle to truly satisfying contemporary relationships.

Authors Stephen Carter and Julia Sokol explore why modern men and women are torn between the desire for intimacy and the equally intense need for independence. Drawing on numerous interviews and real-life scenarios, and written with humor, insight, and the kind of wisdom gained by personal experience, He's Scared, She's Scared offers guidance for all of us who want genuine, sustained intimacy with our romantic partners.

Wish I'd read this 20 years ago.

Hard to hear. Like looking into a mirror. I've been both. Good to have some light, finally, on my confusion.

This book is a life saver.

I was recommended this book from another book called “Anxious Hearts Guide” which I found after a very short, intense, and tumultuous relationship. This book has given me more insight into my own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in romantic relationships than I could have ever imagined. Incredibly accurate to how relationships between people with (usually SUBconscious) commitment issues play out. It was like someone was writing the story of my latest relationship word for word. I would recommend it to anyone who struggles in romantic relationships, or is confused why things don’t seem to work the way they think they will with partners. Five stars.

Important if Commitment is an issue

I wish I had read this book earlier in life. So many of the symptoms are described so clearly with examples of people who have experienced them. An excellent book for recognizing people who have difficulty with commitment.

If your breaking up, this book is 4 U

I really thought it was a book about how to repair, or find out why people treat others like they’re taking someone for granted. It touches base with that. But really no fix for a good relationship with communication problems.
