Better than I thought

First off I really loved this narrator! From the start I was immediately immersed into Bea’s everyday life and enjoyed her as a character. I didn’t want to pause or stop listening to the story and was sad when it ended and then I saw it’s part of a duo-logy. I cannot wait for the second book to be put on audibl. Although I did spoil myself by reading those reviews :/ my fault anyway good read. You won’t be disappointed.

unexpectedly dark but riveting

This book has much of what I love about Jane Washingtons work. Lovable protagonist, interesting potential lovers and a intriguing world for the characters to explore.

This book also has some dark themes I was not expecting. There is a clear theme so sexual abuse in this book in many forms. The book handled the subject well imho.

I'd recommend this book overall however. I don't think I put it down once.

Stunning!!

I've loved this series so hard and to hear Be's voice was an incredible experience!! Jane Washington is beyond brilliant and her storytelling unparalleled!! I absolutely adore her!

Lots of creativity, but big holes in story

Interesting story, but I believe it’s one of the authors earlier works that aren’t as polished?
It’s Washington’s crazy creativity that keeps me coming back to check out more of her books. But it’s the gaping, sometimes truck-sized holes in her world building, plot, and characters that drive me nuts. Oh well. I wish her all the support she needs to keep writing, but minimizing those holes.
Moyen does a good job of narration. Her voice sounds like an 18 yr old.

Can’t wIt for book two. It was a great read, keeps you waiting constantly for the next adventure.

Completely Spell Binding

I loved this book. Jane Washington is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. She weaves a world around Beatrice where each character feels real and the story flows effortlessly. It is so easy to get caught up in this story and I was never bored.

I will say, if you have read the curse of the God's series, this book is a lot darker than that. I believe another reviewer mentioned it, but there is a non-consensual scene in the book, which may be triggering for some. Although that is usually a deal breaker for me, the way the author handled it made me able to finish the book and still come away liking it. I think if you are looking for a new read/listen this is a great option.

The WHAT!?!?!?!?

Let's break it down. The story was good with a very intriguing plot...But, well. First of all, Beatrice is so incredibly naive. It's just unrealistic. The character and world building was good overall though.
The magic system is just very confusing and the ease Beatrice has with it is also unrealistic. Overall, I just didn't like Beatrice all that much, but it's probably just me. The rest though, it's just amazing. Except for the narration, but you get use to it and it gets real easy to listen to after several hours.

So, in conclusion. Good story, slightly unrealistic protagonist, unclear antagonist, weird magic system, decentish narration, and some pretty touching moments. And there's a rape scene where the aftermath is just skipped over entirely.

So................ Pretty good book with some rough edges.

disappointed

the story was jumbled and I struggled to finish, hoping it would improve over time but was disappointed. painfully weak heroine was annoying.

I love this book don’t get me wrong, it was very well written and the narrator is amazing. But, if you have a strong aversion to rape- this is not the book for you. The scene isn’t described in great detail, but it may be enough to dissuaded some readers.
