Publisher's summary

Benedict St. Claire, the newly minted Earl of Danford, has just returned to England after traveling abroad for the last two years. He fully expects the responsibilities of being an Earl to be heaped upon him when he returns, but what he doesn't expect is that his three childhood friends, Griffin, Marcus, and Warren, will make his re-entrance back into polite society anything but comfortable.

Forced by blackmail into accepting a bet from his friends, Benedict is required to dress as an unfashionable half-wit. And while his foolish appearance may certainly amuse them, they are not the ones he is required to impress. Part of the wager entails that he get the lady of their choosing to fall in love with him and become engaged before the season's end, no easy feat to do when the lady of their choosing happens to be a diamond of the first water and the daughter of a duke.

Lady Gillian is entranced with her first season in London and flattered by all of the attention she is receiving, but when the unfashionable Lord Danford begins showing interest, she must decide if what is in a man's heart is ultimately more important to her than his outward appearance and reputation. Can she learn to look past society's high standards and judge her unconventional suitor for what he really is on the inside: a man who fascinates her while igniting her with a passion she never knew existed?

3 1/2 star read and great narration..

Benedict calls Warren, Griffin and Marcus his BFF’s when they blackmail him into taking on a bet OR they will tell Benedict’s mother about the illegitimate son his dead father had? Really? I was turned off by those 3 from the very beginning. That is not what I call friends. So, I was tempted to quit reading almost immediately but my daughter gave it five stars and told me what a fun book it was so I soldiered on.

By 75% I knew would have a hard time liking Griffin. I mean, all three of his friends were pieces of crap but Griffin was the worst. This is a book you either love or hate, and mostly I hated it. The only thing it had going for it was Benedict. Even Gillian started bothering him to get a new wardrobe made for himself. It was like she was saying “I love the way you make me feel all tingly and overcome with desire BUT get new clothes.” I don’t see how Benedict could put up with any of them. Gillian’s attitude didn’t change but at least she stopped harping at him. And the book did get better by 80% but that’s a long time to dislike the main characters before you manage to start sort-of liking them. And since Griffin was the worst one of them all I might have to read the next book since it’s about him.

There was no sex in this book but there was some really sweet desire all through the story which made it good. And there was no swearing.

As to the narrator: Tristan Hunt did a great job with all the voices and he read with wonderful emotions. I would definitely listen to him again.

Fun, entertaining story. Very good narration!

This was a really fun listen. I enjoyed Benedict and Lady Gillian together. They made a great couple. The chemistry felt real and forced. She had spunk and wit. He was handsome and sexy. There was no sex in this book but the attraction and kisses made up for it. He gets the girl even dressed as a fop. LOL

The story line and plot was very good. The story flowed very well and there was a lot of dialogue throughout the entire book, not full of filler nonsense.

As for the narration, Tristan Hunt did a really good job on the female voices and gave the men different distinct voices. Benedict had a very sexy voice. He read with emotion and has very nice reading voice.

Fun and entertaining.

Would you consider the audio edition of Her Unconventional Suitor to be better than the print version?

The voice of Tristan Hunt was a musical on my ears and perfect for this story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Benedict St. Claire because he was torn between a childish bet made by former friends and the idea that he really wanted to do the right thing.

Which character – as performed by Tristan Hunt – was your favorite?

Benedict St. Claire because I heard him the most.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It would have been best to list to in just one setting but I simply did not have the time to do that and I had to break it up with my schedule.

Excellent. And the truth is.....

In the beginning I came close to regretting my choice in this book.... but the magnificent Tristan Hunt is such a joy to listen to that I stuck with it long enough to enjoy it. I really did enjoy it. I think what was missing was the wagering, goading, teasing, troublemaking history of these four men.... as well as how out of character it was to use the blackmailing secret that could do such harm as a means to control the wager. Had I understood that in the beginning the entire tenor of the story is changed is a very positive way. I do not offer this opinion as a spoiler because it's not. It is more of a bonus tidbit that will get you past the point of wanting to turn it off or close it and walk away. The book is worth it!

NARRATOR: The best!

HEAT FACTOR: Non existent!

CREDITWORTHY? Yes. (Except it might cost less than a credit would. I think I got it with the Kindle edition for a total of $5.)

Such a wonderful surprise!

This book was the first I've read/listened to by Ginny Hartman. What a wonderful surprise and easy listen to. The storyline was very captivating and easy to follow. I loved that this romance was clean. My three year old was in the room/car for most of it and I didn't have to worry about him listening in. The narrator's voice is very dreamy. Pretty sure I could listen to his voice every day. He was the perfect choice. I was not dissapppinted in this book in the slightest.

good story let down by poor editing

i do wish Authors who write about England would research thoroughly. this work was threaded with Americanisms which simply do not work. get a British editor to weed out these inconsistencies. Or ... set the work in America.

I enjoyed the reader

This was a hard book to listen too. I didn't like the story line. Best friends don't treat each other this way. The situation was contrived and silly.

Such fun

This is my favorite of Hartman's books. The characters feel real and the events are heartwarming and fun to read. It was amazing to hear this book read. The narrators voice brings characters to life and is very alluring.
