Publisher's summary

This ruthless Russian plays to win!

When social worker, Sam McKinley meets hockey player, Nikolai Rustanov, it’s fire at first sight—a fire Sam totally runs away from as quickly as her heels can carry her. All Sam has ever wanted is a nice, normal family with a nice, normal man. The arrogant Russian hockey player who claims he doesn’t believe in love right before he offers to “eat her for breakfast,” is about as far from that as a girl can get. But some fires just can't be put out.

Soon after meeting Nikolai, Sam forms an unexpected bond with a tragically orphaned boy who turns out to be his nephew. And did we mention, Nikolai is ruthless?

Determined to acquire the beautiful social worker as a caretaker for his previously unknown ward and a conquest for his bed, Nikolai moves Sam and her useless dog into his mansion.

Sam is dead-set on running, but Nikolai is determined to catch her. And when he does, he’ll do just about anything to make her finally surrender to their blazing passion.

This is Book 2 in the Ruthless Russians series. Meet all of the Ruthless Russians:

Sam was manipulative, naive, and selfish…

I think the author might be this way in real life, there is no way you could write characters like these and not relate to what it is they are doing or their actions.

First of all, if this was a book to make you feel badly for the big Russian then it’s on point. Sam was a selfish, she did everything in this book out of her own selfishness and nativity. She also lacked basic communication skills and only knew how to be manipulative. Yes, ignoring your husband and not communication why is a form of manipulation. She had zero redeeming qualities. She treated Marco terribly ( even though we couldn’t tell if he was a catch or not) and she treated Nikolai terribly. I dare say she only attached onto Pavel for her own selfish reasons, but I won’t go into that.

I couldn’t finish with just an hour left. The author should have given less internal thoughts and more dialogue between the 2. It would have been nice to see them really interact. There was nothing “ruthless” about Nikolai, he just literally lacked communication skills, but as a counsellor you would think Sam would recognise that and lead a constructive communicative relationship. He could have done better, he needs to do a better job when picking women he wants to be in relationships with because she’s not it.

I don’t know why this authors male leads always read as “weak” and the women read as dismissive.

Growing tired of this formula :/

I really liked some of Theodora’s first books but I’m growing tired of this storyline formula. I conceptually like the idea of some of the characters but they have been flattening out the the latest books. I hope that changes, I think this author is definitely talented.

Clementine is amazing

I like all of Dora’s stories but Clementine brings them to life. My favorite duo! I have read 80% of all or her books.

I absolutely love this author

I’ve read each and every book written by this author. The narrator is perfect. She captures the highs and lows of this story perfectly. No matter how many times I’ve read this book, I can always reread it at anytime.

SHE DID IT AGAIN!!!

I absolutely love Theodora Taylor's style of story telling. Especially how she brings her characters together to form a loving family. Oh, she also writes the cutest child characters. I just wanted to pinch little Pavel's cheeks. I never listen to her tales of love once her characters bring me back again and again.

Hard push!

OH MY WORD!! It was painful to push through this story with Sam. I was anxiously waiting for her behavior to change, it was torture! If it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t like to waste my money, I would have quit. I think the author took way to long to turn her behavior. The performance was good.

Most Unlikeable

Sam has to be the most unlikeable character ever encountered in a Theodora Taylor book. Even Clementine Dove didn't help. She was judgmental & mean. By the time we got to her back story I didn't care, I wanted Nikolai to run as far away from her as he could get.

Another awesome Russian

I am a Theodora Taylor fan. Some novels I love more than others, but I don't think she can write a bad romance novel. This one was good. Nikolai was not as cold as Alexei, but he was close. Sam, for all of her psychology training, didn't seem to realize how her past was jading her view of Nikolai and his behaviors. This is an intense couple that compliments each other. As with other Theodora Taylor, this one contains eggs (characters) from other novels. I truly enjoyed this story as I have enjoyed many of her other Russian and alpha male romance novels.

Really real story, not fake type people, or love

Love it, stayed up all night listening, getting into the characters. great pace. I love the fact blended family with thirty something lover not the boring virgin young girl who is stupid adult with older guy. Theodore Taylor keep up the good work.
