Publisher's summary

Upon their first meeting, 17-year-old Edwina Banks loses her heart to the handsome Sir Wallace Benedict. She then spends three years doing everything in her power to see him again only to be devastated when she hears that he still holds a tendre for his former love interest - Lady Chatterfield.

Disappointed but not defeated, Edwina forms a plan to help Sir Wallace gain his much-deserved and long-awaited happily-ever-after by winning the object of his affection's favor. For truly then she can put aside her feelings for him and pursue her own match.

Or can she....

Despite his three engagements, the thrice-jilted baronet Sir Wallace Benedict has never had an easy time charming those of the fairer sex. Having been deceived and used more times than he'd care to remember, he's erected a wall around his heart and is skeptical of everyone. Everyone except one Miss Edwina Banks, that is. With an inquisitive disposition, yet a relaxing presence, Edwina is a mystery that has held him captive ever since their first meeting, three years ago. So when she offers to give him advice for how to conduct a courtship that will end with the most favorable result - marriage - he agrees without hesitation.

But when Wallace learns that not only does Edwina have another suitor, but that her advice was meant to help him woo the wrong lady, he forms his own plan: Use Edwina's wooing advice on Edwina.

I loved this series!

Each story is different in this series! I loved them all! I love the family feel with them all being connected in one way or another.

Wonderful

Wallace and Edwina was a sweet cute story. I was very happy with it. Didn’t enjoy the way the Narrator made Maddison and Caroline sound but she wasn’t horrible

Convoluted story makes a sad ending to an excelle

O have loved this series and it's quirky characters but this one was ridiculous. The misunderstandings became preposterous. It was such a shame because I was truly looking forward to Edwina's story. I ended up fast forwarding through many chapters just to avoid the tedium.

Love for him

Rose Gordon is a skilled wordsmith and character crafter. This book is another example of that. However I have one longing. I wish she would adjust her plots to include less torture of her hero and heroine and give them and the reader a bit more time to enjoy their harmony. This book in particular was much looked forward too by me. Having met the hero in other books I longed for him to finally get his happily ever after. Yet I have only been disappointed by a plot as much in one other book (by a different author) in my entire reading experience. Perhaps the acuteness of my disappointment came from the fact that I listened to this entire series back to back. Because of this and the fact that the hero from this book gets poorly treated in love in the plots of other books in the series, and because he is a handicapped in ways that make forming relationships challenging in the first place, I was longing for him to finally get a break and get his own happily ever after and not the hard way either. He’d been beat up in love enough from my perspective. However, much to my dismay and disappointment the author gave him the most consistently tortured story so far. It almost felt like she loved hurting him. She played with him like a cat plays with a mouse. To me it felt cruel. By the end even though the author gave my beloved hero his forever love I felt she had been more cruel to him than the two villainesses she included in the story. This makes me sad because Rose has unsurpassed skill in developing characters and writing vivid flowing prose. I wish she was able to write a plot that didn’t torture everyone repeatedly until the last chapter. If she did she would be one of my top five favorite authors. I did love the ending of this story and I am sure many others will appreciate it as well. Just be prepared for it to take a long time to get to the happily ever after.

Good

All of Rose Gordon's books are good 👍. This was a sweet story and the hero had lots of mountains to climb and spiteful women to battle

Such a sweet story

I really enjoyed this story because it was so completely different from the regular romances. Two people with personal struggles find each other , understand each other and help each other. I thought it was a beautiful story and I was glued to it. It was well narrated and very well written.
As a support worker for the specially challenged my heart went out to both of these characters who through their own strength of character were able overcome and accept their differences despite the cruel opinions of others.

should have been great

What would have made Her Imperfect Groom better?

I loved Wallace and Edwina but found the other characters very annoying. They either lied (Edwina's mother) interfered with (her brothers) or were completely useless (sisters' in law). A story of Wallace and Edwina alone would have been wonderful, this really wasn't a romance, but a frustratingly annoying story of people interfering in their lives.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Louisa Murray?

Not sure

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Her Imperfect Groom?

I'd cut out all the manipulations and most of the other characters whose sole purpose was to thwart and interfere with two "imperfect" people trying to connect.
