Publisher's summary

For years, Brenda Banks was haunted by nightmares hinting at the true identity of her birth mother. That hunger for the truth inspired her to become a reporter, and Brenda refuses to back down when a serial killer targeting Slaughter Creek chooses her to publicize the gruesome crimes. It's a twisted game, one she's certain to lose without the help of FBI Special Agent Nick Blackwood, the man she's loved since high school—and whose tormented past holds the key to catching a killer.

Narrowly surviving childhood with a sadistic father, Nick Blackwood has devoted his life to chasing down criminals, but he's never forgotten the small-town beauty he once loved. But when a murder investigation brings him face-to-face with Brenda Banks, Nick cannot ignore the smoldering fire she rekindles in his troubled soul. Allowing Brenda into his heart means letting down his guard—and that's just what the killer is counting on…

Wow..

Any additional comments?

This was pretty dark but I loved it. I loved Nick and Brenda and it was nice seeing Jake again. Ms. Herron made Arthur Blackwood sooo easy to absolutely hate. He truly was a monster. What he did to Nick and Seven was unbelivable. This was truly a page turner.
I did feel sorry for Seven but she was just crazy.
This had some really brutal sex in it but it also had some romantic sex. Seven had the brutal, Nick and Brenda had the romantic.
So, I'm off to read the next book, Worth Dying For.

As to the narrator: Fabulous! Ms. Eby is just great with her male and female voices. And her villains sounded evil without sounding silly.

Excellent

This series so far is very good. The story line is compelling and continues to unfold throughout the books, unlike some series that have the same story and just change the characters. Tanya Eby is one of my favorite narrators and does an excellent job with the characters.

Attention Rita

So this review is for the author. I think you are very talented, the story held my attention and I will finish the series. My only criticism is so far is in both book one and two is that I don't particularly care for the female leads and if we don't like them then we don't really care if they get their happy ending. At times I felt myself hoping the male leads found other women. Why would an FBI agent let a reporter tramp all over a crime scene, be privy to information vital to an investigation and drive her to crime scenes. It doesn't make sense. And for Brenda getting upset that she was investigated really??? Ridiculous. I don't expect a perfect character but I do want to like them.

Good book, but...

I really liked the plot of this book and the one before it, but I could have done without the gratuitous amounts of sex. Oh well.

Great Story! Kept me Guessing. Great Narration!

Wow this was was great story. I loved it. It was darker than the first book in the series, which made it even better. I liked Brenda and Nick they had some great chemistry and a couple of hot and steamy sex scenes.

The story line and plot were great. This one is about a serial killer named Seven. It was awesome. She was just the right amount of crazy that you kind of liked her, and had empathy at the same time. This story had me guessing all they way through. With a bang of a conclusion. There was so much great dialogue, and the story flowed so nicely it was very easy to follow along. Great writing.

As for the narration, it was fantastic. Tanya Eby is becoming a favorite of mine. The men sound like men, everyone has their own distinct voice and she reads with emotion. Makes the story even better.

This was a free read free listen with my KU subscription, what a great deal!
I totally recommend this series. I am off to the next book! I hope its as good as the first 2 have been.

Very good story!

Never have read this author before. This story was quite a thriller. Never saw the ending coming. Highly reckons it.

This was seriously *bad*

This book kick starts with "sex" that's waaaaay beyond sadistic. It's too ugly. This action continues throughout the book. I suppose we're meant to feel empathy for the perp b/c of her horrific childhood experiences: I did not. Next, the loss of kidneys, major surgery and transplant. Nothing about ANY of this was vaguely realistic. Author needs to do her research. This is lazy writing. The narration was good. Far better than the book.
