Publisher's summary

Henry Lee Lucas was born in a one-room log cabin in Blacksburg, Virginia, the youngest of nine children to Viola Dixon Waugh and Anderson Lucas. His alcoholic prostitute mother often beat him and dressed him up in girl's clothing and made him watch her service her johns while his crippled father watched on helplessly.

Ottis Toole, born at the bottom of the gene pool, retarded and illiterate, had been out of control since early childhood. A severely drug-dependent individual as well as an arsonist and cannibal, he was unsafe under any conditions outside of a secure prison, and perhaps unsafe there. To him, life itself was so unmeaning, and the distinction between living and dead people so blurred, that killing another human being was no more than swatting an annoying fly. Alone and with Lucas, this killer drag queen restlessly roved all over this country robbing, raping, burning and killing, attacking America more like an epidemic plague than a human being.

Based on actual real-life interviews, court transcripts and eye witness accounts, Henry: An American Mobster is an unflinching look into the mind of one of the most vicious serial killers in American history, whom, along with his schizophrenic, psychopathic, murderous sidekick Ottis Toole, cruised the highways and byways of the American South, slaughtering innocent victims in the name of an underground society known as The Hand of Death.

Absolutely Jaw Dropping!

This book sadly is the definitive work surrounding the Adventures of Henry Lee and Otis! I learned the most from this book which is why I GI e it the 4 star overall rating. There isnt much to compare this to, since there aren't many other in-depth looks at this unholy duo. I just wish they had filled in more of the story. I want to see a "Stranger Beside Me" - Level book on this crew!

Nevertheless, it was very good and made you feel as though you were there when the horrendous crimes occurred! Overall, despite the fact that I wish there existed an In -depth novel , this is the best of what's available and its pretty darn good if you ask me. Its unbelievable the depth of depravity when these two men worked together. A must read for any true crime or serial killer buff! Take my word for it!
