In 525 BC, the Persian king Cambyses sent 50,000 soldiers across the conquered Egyptian desert to take an oasis city not far from where the Libyan border stands today. According to Greek history, a hurricane-force sandstorm struck near the end of their 600-mile trek. The army - all 50,000 men - vanished without a single trace. Fast forward to 1986. Story
In 1925, earthquakes and a rising sea level left Lower Manhattan submerged under more than 30 feet of water, so that its residents began to call it the Drowning City. Those unwilling to abandon their homes created a new life on streets turned to canals and in buildings whose first three stories were underwater. Fifty years have passed since then, and the Drowning City is full of scavengers and water rats, poor people trying to eke out an existence, and those too proud or stubborn to be defeated by circumstance. Among them are 14-year-old Molly McHugh.

In the aftermath of a critical World War II battle, Father Gaetano is assigned as the sole priest at the Church of San Domenico in the small seaside Sicilian village of Tringale. The previous pastor has died and there is a shortage of clergy at the moment, so until another can be spared, the young priest must say all of the masses himself. Mass is not Father Gaetano’s only responsibility, however. The war has created many orphans, and thus the San Domenico rectory has been converted into an orphanage.

Hey, hey, book lovers, take off those big thick glasses - this is Deadpool speaking! Sorry Marvel, somethin' happened to your copy guy. Anyway, this is my first prose novel, and they got this dude Stefan Petrucha to write it. He's good people. He's written novels and comics. But here's the thing: This book is about dogs. Dogs that turn into big nasty monsters. And then I gotta kill 'em. Thing is, I like killing people - the ones that deserve it, anyway - but I won't kill dogs. So that's what we call a character dilemma.

A Mixed Bag
Worth the price tag for the stories 'Jigsaw', 'The Nuckelavee' and 'Far Flew the Boast of Him'. All three are top notch and excellent additions to the Hellboy canon, the latter two in particular I would love to see retold in comic form someday. As for the other stories, they vary in quality from forgettably dull to outright bad. Some of the content is entirely negated by events in the comics (see the now non-canon Liz Sherman origin short story here, 'Burn, Baby, Burn') and can be skipped wholesale, as it's not worth your time.
The narrator is excellent and makes the lesser stories in this compilation bearable. Every sentence is delivered perfectly, his portrayal of Hellboy is my favourite I've seen, even trumping the film version, which veers too far from the comic to my liking at times.

is it worth a listen ?
well is it worth a liten ? ABSOLUTLY !!! I have loved bellboy since I first picked up a graphic novel many years ago and I have loved the movies to. I like the grim dark and the mix of humour to the stories. Seth padowitz does amazing work with the story and with success he captivates me from the start. I listened to this while painting and often I realized that I just stoped painting listening. if you do like bellboy this is a must listen. I loved it
