Publisher's Summary

Big-haired paralegal and former rodeo queen Emily has her life back on track. Her adoption of Betsy seems like a done deal, her parents have reunited, and she’s engaged to her sexy boss, Jack. Then client Phil Escalante’s childhood buddy Dennis drops dead, face-first into a penis cake at the adult novelty store Phil owns with his fiancée, Nadine, one of Emily’s best friends.

The cops charge Phil with murder, right on the heels of his acquittal in a trial for burglarizing the Mighty is His Word church offices. Emily’s nemesis, ADA Melinda Stafford, claims a witness overheard Phil fighting with Dennis over a woman. Before he can mount a defense, Phil falls into a diabetic coma, leaving Nadine shaken and terrified. Meanwhile Betsy’s ultra-religious foster parents apply to adopt her, and Jack starts acting weird and evasive.

Emily feels like a calf out of a chute, pulled between the ropes of the header and the heeler, as she fights to help Phil and Nadine without losing Betsy and Jack.

If you like Sandra Brown or Janet Evanovich, you're going to love Pamela Fagan Hutchins. A former attorney and native Texan from Amarillo who spent 10 years in the Caribbean, Pamela splits her time between a little place called Nowheresville, TX and the frozen north of Snowheresville, WY.

Holding onto my seat until the last few words!

What did you love best about Hell to Pay?

I love the way all the storylines weave together. I loved loved loved the twists at the end.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hell to Pay?

The scene in the underground retreat with Jack being set on fire! I mean, how often does the hero get set on FIRE in a book?!

Which scene was your favorite?

I really liked when Emily handled the snake in front of the family... well, really SO MANY Emily things....

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me angry at times. I was so upset at the foster parents of Betsy.

Any additional comments?

I loved the suspense, the way I had no idea how this was all going to end...

my favorite series ever!!!

I could not wait until the third book in this series came out on audio!! Finally!!! If you haven't read Pamela, you should start. Although each book can stand alone I prefer to read them in order. You might as well buy the box set!

Hell to Pay

Just when it looks like everything is falling into place for Emily, everything goes topsey turvey. Will things work out, or is it time for Emily to move on?

Pamela Fagan Hutchins kept my interest throughout as she pulled together all the loose ends.

Tracy Hundley’s narration was well done.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

I have mixed feelings about this one

I was hopping to warm off to Jack-ass but nope. All the secrets and the lies.... I really think she's let him off the hook too fast. The only thing he nailed right was gathering everyone she loves for the weeding. But even that bugs me. Knowing that she was mad with him and had broken off with him, he goes and corners her with everything in motion without talking to her first.
But the way all the other plots were tied together was amazing.
I'm going to miss Emily and Katie.

Another Epic Emily Adventure

I always have so much fun reading the What Doesn’t Kill You stories! They are fun, filled with mystery and a bit of spice. There is murder, excitement, mayhem and of course things that will make you laugh. This one was a bit slower in parts than most of the others but it picks up and keeps you interested. I loved all the little twists and how things came together in ways I did not expect! There were times in the story where Emily’s character became a little obnoxious with her insecurities but that’s how all of us can be at times and she did go through a farce of a marriage so her fears are understandable. Over all she is a very good role model who accepts people for who they are and fights for what is right and is relatable.

Hell to Pay

I love Emily. This story revealed and clarified Jack's past especially in regards to his former wife. There were parts of the story that almost lost me because I didn't think it should have taken so long for Emily or Jack to collect enough evidence for closure. But all in all, this was a worthy, entertaining read.

It pays to listen to this book

It pays to listen to this book because you will enjoy it. What I liked was it was so unpredictable, well you knew the dynamic duo would clear they friends and get him off a murder charge but it was the unusual way they had to do that I enjoyed. I can't imagine another fictional character wrestling a snake. This is book three in the Emily series and it helps to have read or listened to the previous stories so you know who the characters are but it is not required as things are simply explained without going over and over. They is a nice balance between mystery and romance.
This book sees Emily and her fiancé Jack out celebrating a victory in court when a dead body brings the celebrations crashing to a holt. Especially as the prime suspect is the client they just cleared of theft charges and the fiancé of one of Emily closets friends. With new charges facing him Phil ends up in the hospital complicating the problem. In the process of trying to clear his name Emily also comes across some evidence that might help her adoption process of Betsy but with Jack pulling away and going all secretive she has to fight by herself. Just when Emily seems to finally everything she wants, a husband, a child, a job she loves, a home, her mother and father back together things start to unravel.
The narrator was good but I wasn't to sure about some of the voices she used, I couldn't tell if it was a child or an adult talking a few time towards the end but other than that she is easy to listen to.
