Publisher's summary

All Robbie Fontaine ever wanted was a place to belong. After the death of his mother, he bounces around from pack to pack, forming temporary bonds to keep from turning feral. It's enough - until he receives a summons from the wolf stronghold in Caswell, Maine.

Life as the trusted second to Michelle Hughes - the Alpha of all - and the cherished friend of a gentle old witch teaches Robbie what it means to be pack, to have a home.

But when a mission from Michelle sends Robbie into the field, he finds himself questioning where he belongs and everything he's been told. Whispers of traitorous wolves and wild magic abound - but who are the traitors and who the betrayed?

More than anything, Robbie hungers for answers, because one of those alleged traitors is Kelly Bennett - the wolf who may be his mate.

The truth has a way of coming out. And when it does, everything will shatter.

Contains mature themes.

Green Creek #3

"But it was one scent I chased after more than all the others. It was grass. And lake water. And sunshine."

Kirt Graves nailed it. Kirt Graves embodies these characters and performs the text beautifully, bringing all the emotion, action, and uncertainty out so well. This series is such a pleasure to read and listen to, and I highly recommend you grab them if you haven’t already. That being said, definitely want to read these in order.

Heartsong begins with Robbie living in Caswell, Maine as Michelle Hughes, the Alpha of all’s, trusted second. Confused? So was I. Heartsong, like Ravensong, has more non-linear storytelling, picking up several years after the events of Ravensong and having the reader discover everything that happened since at the same time Robbie does.

"Memories are all well and good. They help to shape us, to make us who we are. We learn from past experiences, and they can also bring us joy in the quiet moments of reflection. But they aren’t everything."

Of course there are reasons for Robbie to be where he is, why he doesn’t know who the Bennett pack are, and you’ll get to the answers eventually, alongside Robbie.

“What makes a man?” Her face was covered in shadow. Her hand never left my hair. “If all he knows is stripped away, what is it that remains?”
“I don’t know.”
“I didn’t either until we found you again. I think I know the answer now. Would you like to hear it?”
“Yes.” Almost more than anything.
She said, “What remains is a broken heart shattered like so much glass. Pieces are missing, and the ones that are left don’t fit like they used to. But still it beats, because no matter what is taken away, no matter what is lost, it needs to continue. To survive. You are a survivor, Robbie. And not even magic can take that away from you.”

It takes a pretty deft hand to be able to tell a story from the POV of a person who has no idea what’s happening without losing the audience, but Klune does it.

Heartsong’s definitely not like either Wolfsong or Ravensong, bringing a new layer and depth to the Green Creek saga and while we do get an ending for Robbie and Kelly, the very ending of Heartsong sets up the final book in the series, Brothersong, for what should end up being a pretty epic final battle against a seemingly unstoppable foe. Is it 2020 yet?

Every book in this series is incredible

I understand Robbie now, and for that I am grateful. I’ve never read books that communicate feelings as well as these.

cozy fantasy?

Another brilliant book by TJ Klune. I was super nervous to start this one after loving the first in this serious so much, but silly me, I should have just trusted the author. I've learned my lesson. I loved how this story dovetailed both in and out of the first book in such a masterful way, seeing things from multiple perspectives seems to be one of TJ's master skills. This book is very surprising in the tone it takes as well as in the multiple plot twists. I am so thankful for the "calm before the storm" parts of this book as well as the storms. If you loved the first you absolutely must read this one. I enjoy these so much that I gave myself a month or so in-between the books so as not to burn out on them but again, silly me. I didn't even realize I would like books like this (fantasy with some romance). I recently discovered "cozy sci-fi" and I will suggest these books are a bit of "cozy-fantasy." Maybe its the time we are living in (politics, covid-19) but the idea of suspense, mystery mixed with love and good feelings seems to be doing the trick right now. Go read it! P.S. I almost forgot, the narration is perfection, and I mean PERFECTION, like always with Kirt Graves.

Loved this Series

Klune nails it with poetic prose that are expertly performed by Graves. The storyline is engaging. You so identify with the characters, but there's just enough paranormal to make it fun.

Another Amazing Book by TJ Klune.

This is not at all what you would expect. It took me a minute of wrap my head around what was happening. But once I did- gahhhhhh!!!
You cannot read this series without listening to it. Kirt’s voices are perfection for each person and he brings a whole new life to the series. Do walk run and get this one!

So Good!

I have concluded that TJ Klune is using the lil gay werewolves as the vehicle through which he inflicts countless tiny paper cuts to our hearts, one emotional moment at a time. For what reason? I can’t say. But I do know based on his Instagram he finds great joy in it and I honestly love that journey for him. He did warn readers that there would be a point in which we would look up and say, “What the eff, Klune?!” I hit that point about 4 times and I’m not entirely sure which one of those times he was talking about. And I loved every second of it.

The Bennett Pack is so special. I love every single member more and more as the series goes on, and was really excited to get a deeper dive into Robbie and Kelly. I love Kelly’s quiet ferocity and Robbie’s enduring heart. I love the way they see each other, love each other, and fight for one another. I love watching the pack also show how they love each other and fight for one another over and over again.

I listened to the audiobook ahead of the trad pub release because I couldn’t hold out any longer and Kirt Graves did an awesome job with it. Every character has their own distinct voice and considering there are quite a few core characters in this series that’s a lot to keep track of, but he does so masterfully. I was able to tell who was speaking based on the voice being used. Also there are several passages in the book that are formatted more like poetry and Graves did a really great job of conveying these sections without making it confusing to listeners who didn’t have the text in front of them. If you’re an audiobook fan then this is a great one to pick up.
