Publisher's Summary

Windmill Point, Michigan, 1865.

Can she forgive the hurting man who costs her the role she loves?

After her father's death, Caroline Taylor has grown confident running the Windmill Point lighthouse. But in 1865 Michigan, women aren't supposed to have such roles, so it's only a matter of time before the lighthouse inspector appoints a new keeper - even though Caroline has nowhere else to go and no other job available to her.

Ryan Chambers is a Civil War veteran still haunted by the horrors of battle. He's secured the position of lighthouse keeper mostly for the isolation - the chance to hide from his past is appealing. He's not expecting the current keeper to be a feisty and beautiful woman who's angry with him for taking her job and for his inability to properly run the light. When his failings endanger others, he and Caroline realize he's in no shape to run the lighthouse, but he's unwilling to let anyone close enough to help. Caroline feels drawn to this wounded soul, but with both of them relying on that single position, can they look past their loss to a future filled with hope...and possibly love?

narration is wanting

The narrator's tone dips at the end of every sentence. It's annoying. It somehow sounds condescending.

Three words. I loved it!!!

It was hard to stop listening. I love this hope centered series. The patience and faith showed by these people in waiting for healing and even love is beautiful and pure. Thank you sooooo much Jody Hedlund for making such wonderful books that portray Christ's message of hope.

Feel Good Book

That was really CUTE.. I really needed this kind of book to hit the spot for me So in this book we follow Ryan, Emma's brother.. and right now he just returned from war and he accepted a new job in a new lighthouse .. and it happens that the residents of the house are Caroline and her family .. and as time passes Ryan and Caroline form a bond which turns into love it was a really feel good book and I want to continue on with Tessa's story since she is the bearer of the wooden cross let's see I really wish if they picked a different narrator because she is really robotic and barely performing

Heartfulness

I loved the story and the historical facts woven in. The narrator is a bit too sweet, but she does well with voice distinguishing. Thanks for the Christian world view!

Annoying

These have to be the most daft characters ever written. Their internal dialogue is almost completely written in the form of questions, and not even clever questions that add to the characters or story. How many times do we have to hear “is someone trying to hurt us? Is someone trying to send us a message? Could it be a coincidence?” Garden is cut down, locked in a cellar, two different incidents of ducks being crucified (weird), and a fire set... “Is someone trying to hurt us...? Do these simpletons go to the sheriff or mayor? No. They’re too busy wondering if the wind shut and locked the cellar door. Eye roll. The narrator’s voice, tone and affect only adds to sense of stupidity in the characters. But here’s my biggest grievance: These stories are set in real places. The author - who actually lives in Michigan - likes to add a few historical tidbits to her stories AND she works with this narrator frequently. So why couldn’t the narrator correctly pronounce Grosse Pointe? Is it that hard?

Well Written. Great Read

The Narrator did a great job and this is one of Jody Hedlund’s best . Caroline and Ryan’s story offers a good read.

Loved it!

I enjoyed the first, but this one was even better. It gives you all the feels. There were moments when I was on the edge of my seat, moments I was angry and moments I wanted to cry. I got used to the narrator during the first book, so that didn’t really bother me. This series is the first I’ve read by this author and I really like her style. A great Christian romance!

Women and lighthouses, Disasters and success?

this book is number 2 in series of books on women lighthouse keepers. The author uses histories of real lighthouses and keepers to base her stories on. the stories are full of adventures , romance, and relationships. including relationships with God. I recommend these book and think women will find them especially interesting in a time of oppression for women .

Another great book :)

Although I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment of this amazing series, I must admit that it took me a little longer to really get into this book. That being said, in no way was this book not as good as the first. Becky Doughty did a fantastic job narrating and making this story come alive!
