Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling series.

They’re hunting a killer so silent, so invisible, that his unspeakable crimes are the only proof he exists.

A car submerged in a remote pond. The bodies of two girls strapped into their seats. The mystery of their mother, vanished without a trace, leads Gwen Proctor and Kezia Claremont into dangerous territory.

On the surface, Gwen’s life is good - two children approaching adulthood, a committed partner, and a harrowing past dead and gone. But that past is attracting the attention of someone invisible...and unstoppable. Trouble’s just beginning. So is the body count in this backwoods Tennessee town.

As threats mount and Gwen’s hunted by an enemy who pulls all the strings, Kezia has her back. But working to solve these vicious and unreasonable crimes will expose them both to a killer they can’t for the life of them see coming.

I can only hope there are many more to come!!!!

Oh what a twisted story this is! HEARTBREAK BAY is the fifth book in the Stillhouse Lake series. This book can easily be listened to as a standalone. The author does a great job weaving in the history of the characters that anyone can pick up any one of the books in this series and not feel lost
In this book someone who knows the protagonist’s past has decided that she has gotten away with murder. He’s not opposed to hurting her friends and family to make her pay. He’s done it before with others. He just doesn’t realize who he’s set his sights on this time. Some will get hurt and others will die but not necessarily by his own hands.
The three narrators work very well together. The transitions from one to another is done very smoothly.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Horrible narration. Boring story

I've read all the books in the series. This was my least favorite. I couldn't get into it that much. Was bored for long stretches. Also horrible narration just horrible. Maybe that's what threw me off. Idk.

Not a review of the story, but for narration

This is some of the worst narration I've heard in my any of my 700 audible titles. If I wrote what I wanted to and provide a realistic and honest assessment, Audible would probably cancel my account. Don't waste your money. Demand better for the hard earned dollars you use to purchase entertainment. All of the previous installments in this series were up excellent. I doubt the author has listened to how a few of her characters were portrayed. It was insulting.

Bittersweet endings

A great ending to the Stillhouse Lake series but also bittersweet knowing that Rachel is not here to celebrate with us because she passed away soon after finishing this book.

Fabulous narration by, Emily Sutton-Smith , Dan John Miller & Tovah Ott who voice Gwen, Sam and Kezia all three gave great performances!

Gwen once again finds herself in trouble and she has to trust the people around her! This was a great twisty story and when the reveal came whoo boy we were off the the races and this story didn't let up again until the end! I did feel like we got some closure on Gwens story and as much as I have loved this series I don't want another author stepping in to write any more I would rather just leave Gwen, Sam, Lanny and Connor and of course Kezia and Javier to live out their lives in peace and put all the murders behind them! I want to think things got better for everyone after this one last case!

4 stars

RIP to the wonderful Rachel Caine who was so kind to her fans!

Narrator fir Gwen is AWFUL

Okay, Rachel Caine- you pushed me too far and I don't think I will be back for another. This series showed such promise, but the stories have becone predictable, the writing is just bad in many parts, and the characters have become more one dimensional with each book.

Not as good as previous books

Narrator was very dull and monotone. The previous books were much better. Very slow story line.

One of the better in the series

This was a good finale to the series (unfortunately the author passed away last year). I felt some closure to the story, which I was hoping for because I was afraid that these books would continue to get more and more outlandish. I highly recommend this series, it's a fun read and definitely kept my attention. This could be a stand alone book, but I would suggest reading The Stillhouse Lake series in order.

Good God it’s bad. Rachel Caine killed the series

Where to begin? I used to love this series-but then again, Gwen used to be a likable sympathetic character. She’s become ridiculous, arrogant and moronic - a master class in poor mothering, sanctimonious and judgmental. The story is off the wall ridiculous, the latest bad guy is by far the least believable most ridiculously cliche bad guy of all. That’s really it. This whole thing was just one big bad cliche. And the worst thing is the new narration for the latest narrator-holy moly it’s like some horrible caricature of what a southerner sounds like, excruciating to listen to. I think the narrator watched foghorn leghorn cartoons to learn the accent. By the end I wanted both women to get killed off for being complete idiots. Maybe the first time on audible that I want a refund. DON’T WASTE THE TIME!!!!

not my favorite

This is my least favourite of the series. The author needs to move into new troupes. the main protagonist seems to always be the victim.

better read it ...

... than listening to it.
unfortunately I could not easily follow up the narration of Ms Tova Ott . especially in the first two thirds of the book I had to slow the speed down which was really doing damage to the voice. What a pitty.
But since I knew this was the end of the Gina/Gwen story I stood by until the end . And I really liked Rachel Caines excellency of her gripping story telling once more. Thank you.

Disappointing

Dull voices reading this book. I found it all disappointing. Many apologies but I can only review as I found.

Excellent, as always!

Another 5 star book, making 5 in this series. More please! I wish Rachel Cain wrote more thrillers like this.
