Publisher's Summary

USA Today best-selling author Craig A. Price Jr. presents Heart of Ikchani, an adventure of women versus a male-led government.

Adnieva loses everything she holds dear and decides to leave her small village of Tiermerra in search of better things. At the top of her list is revenge.

Naveen travels from city to city trying to conceal her ability, an ability she learned at a younger age at great cost to her.

Divinity grows tired of the politics in the city of Legain and her father's hold over her. She decides to take things into her own hands and escape.

Nyverra had always been a great servant, but she is forced to flee Legain because she is accused of murdering the duke.

Apart, these women can do little, but with a little heart, they can form the Ikchani and begin plans to overthrow the male government of each city in Calthoria. Together, they are the Ikchani.

Kinda choppy and difficult to follow

Narratively interesting, but the story has too many protagonists. Maybe could have worked if it had been a bit longer, but as it sits was kinda all over the place.

far too rapey for me

DNF midway through Chapter 2.

Cliched in every way imaginable. Plus, so far rape (by name or not) has been referenced about half a dozen times, which is a BIG turn off for me. First when the brother suggests the women are being kept alive for reasons in the first battle. Then, when the enemy takes her captive and the soldiers talk about a man breaking her and another says, "maybe more than one." Then when the duke's daughter's betroths brings it up, and then when she walks in on her father in the aftermath of raping a child-servant and references when he tried the same with her. And that's only in a brief chapter and a half! That's when I gave up. I can see what the author's idea of fantasy is and I'm 100% not interested. I also didn't care for how the narrator was speaking. But that's a preference, not a quality issue.

Note: I recieved an audible code for a free copy of this book. I chose to listen and review it.

Pace issue but good story

Narrator: 3 stars
Story: 5 stars
Writing: 5 stars

The narrator had a hard time keeping an even pace. Most of the time, it felt deliberate, as if she thought slowing things down or speeding them up would bring out certain parts. I grew quickly frustrated with it. She did well with accents and emotions and character personalities though. Just needs to work on that pace issue and remembering accents (aside from dialogue, everything was in American accent but she seemed to forget that at times.) The story was fun! It swapped characters often, but I never felt lost. I almost wish it was longer. Every character was vastly different from one another. The writing was excellent. I saw no flaws here as everything flowed seamlessly from one sentence to the next.

Loved the concept.

I loved the concept of this book. Wish the author would have gone farther with it. Great short read.
The narrator did a good job but when trying to do other voices the sounded odd.

Solid!

I mean solid in all forms... The narration was crisp, enjoyable and distinct throughout... Anne Marie Lewis was very easy to listen to. Full disclosure, I'm a big fan of Craig A Price Jr. and if you arent, you're missing out on some really fantastical stories... this 2.5hr listen was jam packed, good character development and story arc... it doesnt need to be longer, but it could have been without feeling bloated. a solid listen you should definitely spend the coin on!

Good Story

The writing and narration are excellent in this fantasy tale. The only downside is the ending. It could have been more precise and given the listener some closure.
