Normal to Fit & Feeling Amazing at 48

What did you love best about The Whole Foods Diet?

I love love love this book. I've played with going Vegan or Vegetarian for years but never stuck with it. This is the first book to change my thinking on food. It's difficult trying to figure out what is REALLY good for us and what is not. This book simplifies the difference between what are healthy whole foods and what are processed foods. I spend less money, eat healthy whole foods, have more energy, and eat all day. It makes perfect sense to me now and I feel better than ever at 48 yr old.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Whole Foods Diet?

The information on the 8 Essential Foods to eat everyday.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Relieved that I do NOT have to get protein from an animal. Excited to learn how to eat legumes, fruits, vegetables, and 1300+ Vegan plant based foods.

Any additional comments?

I found out about this book from an Interview John Mackey (Whole Foods founder) did with the "Mind Body Green" podcast. Highly recommend listening to this interview.

The Lifesaving Plan for Health and Longevity

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes it has the true story of Mackeys personal positions as compared to the Whole foods store's range of foods...in other words it reveals that he personally (Mackey) prefers a vegan diet with fresh foods...And that he (Mackey) appreciated the China Study and T Colin Campbell. I am fully commited to his work even more now because of this one book.
Thank you for sharing your story and your personal insights

A Great Book for Anyone Transitioning

As a whole food plant-based eater for going on five years, this is the book I would recommend wholeheartedly to anyone new (or new'ish) to a whole food plant-based lifestyle. It features a compelling rundown of the science and is loaded with tips to help folks succeed. Excellent book!

Vegan propaganda

Starts out with a reasonable premise and then quickly ratchets up the vegan propaganda. Eating animal products is compared to slavery and genocide. Hard to take the authors seriously at that point.

Good, Comprehensive Overview

I would highly recommend this to someone who loves food and is looking to use it as a blueprint for food as medicine.

We've all heard the warnings about our health and the narrow-minded viewpoints of groups who like to target one particular type of food or one component of foods and eliminate those as a "quick fix". I love that this book avoids that whole narrative and instead gives a comprehensive overview of how food affects multiple facets of our health, concerning longevity, weight, overall mood, disease, etc. Written by the CEO for Whole Foods, there was significant mention of the store, but it is not portrayed as an advertisement for the store. There is also significant mention of scientific evidence, studies, and cultures around the globe that have proven the benefits of this type of lifestyle. I am excited to try it out!

Really inspiring

I’ve been listening to this book for about 3 weeks now, and it has caused me to do a complete health “re-set,” getting back to eating whole foods. Very informational and also extremely motivating!

Most basic level info

I was looking for something to go beyond basic nutrition. This did not keep my attention.

Good Takeaways But Diet Would Be Hard To Follow

There are good takeaways from this book in the overall philosophy of eating whole unprocessed foods etc. but diet I have to say is pretty extreme for most people. The big one for me is absolutely no oil (Not even olive oil or butter). Also, if you are used to eating meat getting down to 10% or less will be difficult as well. I read another book recently on Audible about the American tendency to extremes. I feel this diet is kind of an example of what previous book was talking about. It's not about moderation it's about going one direction in a drastic way. That's my criticism, BUT there are many good things and useful things in this book that will help people get healthy and live longer. It did help me. It's just a mixed bag. He says don't worry the food is delicious! But then a few times he mentions to make diet easier just eat the same thing again and again, lunch for example. Was thinking who wants to do that, who could maintain that kind of discipline?
