Publisher's summary

With scientific research, her own chemistry background, and the traditional diets of our not-so-distant ancestors as her guides, Dee McCaffrey casts new light on an age-old wisdom: Eating foods in their closest-to-natural form is the true path to sustained weight loss and, in fact, the remedy for almost any health problem.

We are so far removed from foods in their natural states that we now call them "health foods", a sad admission that we've compromised our health for the sake of convenience. The Science of Skinny aims to create a space for change - to educate and enlighten listeners on the value of proper nutrition so they can find a healthier and more life-affirming relationship with their bodies and the food they eat.

Knowledge equals longevity and great health.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in gaining control of their health. While the title is catchy for those looking to be "skinny" they are in for a shock (and a treat) because this book provides information about obtaining maximum health so that our bodies conform to its natural state which is healthy, healed and whole. The reader will learn about some of the things we put into our bodies that are slowly killing us. It then breaks the information down so that we have full, transparent knowledge how these substances came to exist (or be created).

What did you like best about this story?

I believe the research and knowledge provided in this book will save lives. At the very least, it will give readers an opportunity to make conscientious, informed decisions that govern their health, their lives and those they love.

Which character – as performed by Erin Bennett – was your favorite?

This narrator did an excellent job of portraying the author's intent in a clear and precise manner. While the book itself is well written and easy to read it is also an excellent choice to own on audio.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book will move you to change the way you shop, eat and read labels.

Any additional comments?

I think this book should be required reading in this age of morbid obesity and critically poor health. Before we can change our (eating) habits we need to know why and how they were first developed; we then need to know how we can break these habits contributing to our declining way of life (via food). We require food to survive. So what are all the extras in food about? Looks? Taste? Profit? And at what costs are we willing to pay to have these "extras" that are slowly robbing us of our health? Do we moderate or eradicate? You choose; but gain knowledge first, so that you are able to make an informed decision. This book will help you do that.

I have read almost every health book there is but this one gave me more useful information that I had not heard before. I am actually going to listen to it again.

life-changing

I listened to the book during my walks everyday and as I gradually got through the chapters I immediately would incorporate the tips from what I'd just heard that I knew would work for me. In less than 10 days my body has changed, my energy is way way up and my clothing is already becoming way looser.

Pandora's Box

Both enlightening and terrifying! You will never look at your food the same way ever again.

loaded with practical, useful information!

this book is chalked full if eye opening, practical, useful information, that can simply be used to change your life and body. really, really good stuff, and it's common sense stuff too. stuff we all know deep down, but have chosen to ignore. if anything is to change, our ignorance to things like the food industry, has got to end. this book will help you end it. I've already begun using the helpful info in this book. lost a stubborn 5 pounds in the first week, and already my gut had began feeling better.

I’m an obesity specialist MD! And this taught me a lot!

Wow! Dee, you’re so talented a Godsend indeed! I am an obesity board certified MD and I still learned a ton from your hidden gem of a book!

Wow!
Suffice it to say I couldn’t even wait to finish the whole book to rate it 5/5!! Never happened before, despite reading hundreds of books on the matter! Moreover, never decided to read the book again immediately after finishing it till your book!

Highly recommended!

Chock Full of Information!

I learned so much from this book! The science and the practical information are mixed together like a salad topped with stories from real life people who benefited from living a processed-food-free life. I relearned the dirty dozen, and received valuable advice about healthy cooking oils and not so health cooking oils. Coconut oil is good for you! Yeah! I use Noom, and over 4-years I have lost 24 lbs., about 0.5 lbs. per month. This book has reinforced the importance of taking care of myself, meal planning and asking wait-persons for vinegar for my salads. My mother and father said, “Eat your vegetables”. They were right!
