Publisher's summary

In The 20/20 Diet, Dr. Phil McGraw identifies seven reasons other diets fail people over and over again: hunger, cravings, feeling of restriction, impracticality and expense, boredom, temptations, and disappointing results or plateaus. Then, he addresses each of these roadblocks by applying the latest research and theories that have emerged since his last best seller on the same topic, The Ultimate Weight Solution.

Dr. Phil and his team have created a plan that you can start following right now and continue working for the rest of your life. In this diet, listeners will start by eating only 20 key ingredients, called the "20/20 Foods", which theories indicate may help enhance your body's thermogenesis and help you feel full. But that's just the beginning. This book explains why you haven't been able to lose the weight before, and empowers you with cognitive, behavioral, environmental, social, and nutritional tools so you can finally reach your goal, and learn lifelong healthy habits to maintain those results.

Not Really New

Any additional comments?

I've been fighting my weight my entire life. This book is really just more of the same. All "New Emerging Sceince" is either unsupported enough to mean anything or, in my opinion, not really New. Waste of time. If your metobaolically chalenged you have no choice but to cut out sugar and bread and all simple starches. Period. I wish I had better news for us but, it is what it is. Unlike drugs, Food is our addiction and we must eat every day. Abstinence is the only cure, so we must discover our triggers and abstain indefinitely. Not great news for sure and not fun. I Highly rercommend Dr. John Sarno's books on "Healing back pain with the mind" to unlock the hidden power of our minds to dictate our health. Trust me on this. It changed my life.

Dr. Phil is Gold

Everything Dr. Phil does is done with thoughtful excellence. He makes even the worst news palatable. I am looking forward to digging into the 20/20 plan and taking control of my own weight. I begin 3/1/2019. I'll report back! The only critical feedback I have is that Dr. Phil did not narrate this book. While I enjoyed Eddie Garvar and he did a great job, it just wasn't the same. It isn't his celebrity that makes him (Dr. Phil that is,) so powerful it is booming voice. I tend to listen to his voice and perceive him as someone you just don't want to disappoint and simply can't bullshit. I followed a health and fitness guru in the 80s/90s and even used to work out with her in a school basement in Seattle, also did an exercise video with her. Susan Powter - her message about food is simple and similar but she laced her message with a sprinkle of man hate and often went off on unnecessary tangents, she refused to get certified in Yoga before she began teaching. What appeals to me about Dr. Phil's message is that he surrounds himself with an advisory board who are the best in their fields and you trust their information. I'm not exactly poo pooing Susan Powert's message, she got a lot right but etiquette and smart certifications just make sense. Pretty good!

The User Manual is very good. would have rather had Dr. Phil read it though.

Great help for understanding your body!

I have listened to the whole book and will have to look somethings up/references and relisten... this makes it more understandable and how to set/meet your goals in life.

Requires a Workbook

Good book and information. Just hate that there's an accompanying workbook that was not provided.

Better buy the book hard copy

Book is very good but it is a lot easier to follow when you have the actual book. Recommended though.

Hmmm

Nothing new I didn't already know. I expected more information. Don't see what all the hype of this book is.
