Publisher's summary

Popular nutritionist Nora Gedgaudas returns with advice that may sound counterintuitive: eat fat to burn fat. In her new book, Primal Fat Burner, she explains the benefits and science behind a ketogenic diet: It switches your metabolism from running on sugars to running on healthy fats. As Gedgaudas reveals, numerous studies in recent years have refuted the previously promoted anti-saturated fat and anti-cholesterol agenda. Now, Gedgaudas explains, science shows that fat isn't a no-no but rather a yes-yes - as long as you know the right kinds of fats to eat. In addition to explaining the science beyond that logic, Gedgaudas also lays out a practical meal plan with recipes - all of which reveals that following a ketogenic diet will lead to consuming fewer calories overall!

No PDF supplement

Without a PDF supplement, second part of book is such a bore and not useful. You are listening to recipes, food lists, and long websites as resources. I listen to books so I can multitask, not have to sit down and write down what narrator is saying.

NEED RECIPES!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I could not get enough!!

Any additional comments?

I was worried recipes may not be available...but I took the chance and bought the audio version...
To my disappointment the recipes are not available, I feel I need to purchase the book a second time in a printed version so that I can take advantage of the recipes in this book.

Dissapointed

Is there anything you would change about this book?

A PDF of the recipes needs to be included. How can a person follow the recipes?

If you’ve listened to books by Nora Gedgaudas before, how does this one compare?

This was the first book I purchased by Nora Gedgaudas. I will not buy any more of her books because of the lack of a recipe PDF. I have contacted the author and the publisher about this and they have ignored my request. How do they expect people to follow a recipe from an audio book? I love the book and would love to buy more of her books, but because of the poor customer service I've received, I will not buy future books nor will I recommend them.

Any additional comments?

As I mentioned before, I liked the book very much and would love to buy other books by Nora, but not providing a PDF for the recipes is ridiculous, especially for the price of the book. I am very, very disappointed.

Good book, but no access to recipes.

Where does Primal Fat Burner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 5 in regards to diet and health. I would rate a 5 star if it were not for the problem below.

Any additional comments?

There is no access or download for the recipes that the author includes in the book. There should be a website to get this, a PDF download, or some other way.

Great book, easy to follow

This book was pretty good. I was skeptical that it might be another health fad, but she seems to have a lot of first hand knowledge of human dietary history, plus the time she spent with the Inuits. It just seems to make sense that if you train your body to burn fat as a primary resource, then eating fat won't make you fat. I'll admit that some of the foods she mentioned made me cringe a little, but then again, I feel like I've trained myself to prefer the wrong foods. I did think the narration voice sounded computerized, because of how some words were pronounced, like, "pico de gallo," which she says like PEEKO-DUH-GALLOW, and the correct way is more like PEEKO-DEE-GUY-OH. Then she said herbs de province correctly. I'm going to try a bone broth and will try to cut carbs and dairy down considerably before I dive head first, and I'm excited about seeing how some of the recipes might turn out.

Great book

I enjoyed this book very much!!! Great information and I am ready to tweak my paleo diet in favor of good fats!!!!
My only complaint is the readers mispronunciation of words! Oh well, a worthwhile listen!

ARRGH...

Where does Primal Fat Burner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My problem, about 3 hours into the audible book, is that no references have been/are mentioned. I don't expect to hear the references, of which there should be scores if not hundreds, to support all of the numerous statements the author makes as if they are undisputed facts. But, the speaker could mention that references are provided in the book or online. I don't know if references are given.

The author goes back to Lucy, the famous hominid of six plus million years ago, to fashion her thesis, with support of ancient paleontological and archeological evidence, but without references. Thus, the listener is jerked from one "scientific" statement to another, all the while waiting for the author to get to the subject of the book (or to the subject that this reader was expecting to find in the book).

The other very irritating feature, so far, in listening to this book is that the speaker mispronounces a few significant words, including the name of important fats. This announces to the listener that the author did not review the work for quality and soundness before it was made available as an audible book. It also lets the listener know that the reader did not prepare to read the book by searching for unfamiliar words and seeking out guidance from the author or, in this case, a scientist familiar with the subjects covered, before recording those passages.

I am still enthused about what might be found in this book regarding a really good Paleo diet, so I will continue to listen. I plan to do this in comparatively short bursts so I don't get too irritated, should the lack of allusion to references (to be found elsewhere) and lack of preparation continue.

What did you like best about this story?

I haven't finished the book yet.

How could the performance have been better?

Detailed above

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Pissed me off.

All the Information You Could Hope for...

and more. A well written book. Enjoyable to read. Clear and informative with the 2nd part full of great tools to implement the plan. One of the best "diy" sections I have found. As a health care practitioner of over 30 years, I still found new, exciting information. But with that said, I will have no qualms giving this book out by the dozens to my nutrition patients.

Too much narrative an not enough what to/how to

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book. Great information, science and how-to is buried in bloated narrative.

Has Primal Fat Burner turned you off from other books in this genre?

No - I continue to pursue knowledge and information in this area.

What about Donna Postel’s performance did you like?

Narrator is great.

Could you see Primal Fat Burner being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

God no!
