Publisher's summary

Intuitive Eating is the go-to book on rebuilding a healthy body image and making peace with food. We’ve all been there—angry with ourselves for overeating, for our lack of willpower, for failing at yet another diet. But the problem isn’t us; it’s that dieting, with its strict rules, keeps us from listening to our bodies. Written by two prominent nutritionists, Intuitive Eating will teach you how to reject diet mentality forever; how our three eating "personalities" define our eating difficulties; how to find satisfaction in your eating; how to feel your feelings without using food; how to honor hunger and feel fullness; how to follow the 10 principles of "intuitive eating"; how to achieve a new and safe relationship with food and, ultimately, your body; and more.

This revised edition includes updates and expansions throughout, as well as two brand-new chapters that will help listeners integrate intuitive eating even more fully into their daily lives.

The narrator's tone is scolding!

I really like the book, the topic, and all the ways that it is relevant in each one of our everyday lives. However, the narrator sounded like she was lecturing the entire time which was really kind of the opposite of what I thought the book was trying to portray in terms of tone. When learning how to adopt a flexible and intuitive eating mindset, rules and restrictions no longer exist, however this lady made it sound like she was scolding me the entire time she read the book.

Amazing

I loved this book. Applying this way of eating/ living to my life has been so liberating. Still working on letting go of guilt around certain foods, but I’ve never felt so present in my body and in my life.

Great way to understand how to eat

Overall the concepts make sense. If you dont have issues with weight, then this might mirror your natural tendencies. Naming them is great as I am getting older I see many going on diets. I also understand food dieting is one thing, but we restrict more than food. understanding these principles can cross other goals for happiness and hopefully influence them positively.

If you find the book examples get too repetitive, I suggest going to the last 50 minutes and get the conclusion. The principles might not benefit you, but your family. children pick up your habits. the concepts in this book can help break any negative behaviors faster once you are aware they exist.

Helpful in a lot of ways

It's taken me almost 3 years to finish this book. That's a good thing because serious growth and changes in mindset take some time and should not be rushed. I'm guessing that while some of the points in this may apply to everyone, it doesn't always, so in order to proceed and finish, I also had to find many of the answers as to how to mend my relationship with food and my body through time, and have learned to honor my body, so I have learned to take what I need and leave the rest, especially the nutrition advice. Overall, it's a great book with information on how to leave the diet mentality behind.

Excellent information, however....

I enjoyed the information. in the beginning, I felt I was listening to my biography! It is useful information and has helped me see where I need improvement. HOWEVER, the only drawback is the repetitiveness. I understand this is a teaching method, but there were times I literally thought I had gone back to a previous chapter because I was hearing identical information. Overall, a good resource, but be patient.

Sounds good...we’ll see what happens!

Well, it certainly sounds amazing. Spoiler alert...never diet again! When I read this, I assumed I was dragging my feet about starting my next diet because I was a fat, lazy slob. But maybe I am just totally burnt out on diets. I hope this is all true. I hope that I can just learn to feel my hunger cues again and that will be it. Fingers crossed!

Must read for everyone!!!

Everyone needs to read this book. I have never suffered from an eating disorder, but found this book none the less insightful and inspiring. I eat to celebrate or when I have nothing else to do. Do yourself a favor, read the book.
