Publisher's summary

This book is all about getting disability benefits, written by a retired social worker. It includes all the step-by-step instructions. The way this book is written is funny and entertaining. It's a shorter book, but it's some milk and all meat - to use a Christian term. There is no book fluff or filler here.

Social Security Guru

I bought this audiobook for my grandparents, as they are now retired and looking for more ways to supplement their income. This book was very clear and very easy for them to follow along with. I am so glad they could get this help.

Practical, Helpful and Protective

If you could sum up How to Get Social Security Disability Benefits in three words, what would they be?

Straightforward, Helpful, Informative

Who was your favorite character and why?

No characters, just the author and his own advice and experiences

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, very quick!

Any additional comments?

This book is very short and quick but gives you all the support and information needed to start the process of getting your Social Security Benefits and making it through the long process. His advice is practical and inspires you to stay the course. Coming from his own experiences and wanting to support others along their path, The Bard, gives you insights in working with the whole process that may be able to help you receive some of the financial gain that is already there for you to use. His basic thought is; if you are handicapped, you deserve to have this money that is set aside for you and he shows you how to work through the process to get it.

Felt like I was listening to "My Cousin Vinny"

Felt like I was listening to "My Cousin Vinny" talking to the judge about the "two yoots." The author could have done without the foul language and ethnic slurs (example: "like sh*t on an Indian blanket"). I imagined the poor narrator cringing as he read it. if the narrator had a Brooklyn mafia accent, it would maybe at least have some crude entertainment value.

The author did make some good points--be honest, well-documented, and very very VERY patient. It was nice and short, with badic highlights on what to do and not do. Worth the price (it was free).

Call you local Social Security office instead

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I think it would be a good book for anyone that wants to know bare basic information about the process for applying for disability.

What was most disappointing about Levi Freud’s story?

Very flat and little to no emotion.

Would you be willing to try another one of Levi Freud’s performances?

Not at this time

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I like that he stresses the importance of making sure you are disabled and not just pretending to be. I also like that he tries to make the process a little more understandable.

Any additional comments?

While the base info is okay a lot of the terminology and information is wrong. SSA has multiple programs and rules for disabled individuals. I highly recommend calling your local SSA office or go into the office and discuss exactly what the rules are for the programs.

Very basic and practical info: did and don'ts.

Very layman-like. Basic reality-check approach: don't try to cheat. Included a racist remark about American Indians author seemed oblivious to. Not a good use of my time or money.

Repetitive and Rude

Chapter 2 - saying someone is retarded and will get disability is not PC and lacks professionalism.
Throughout entire book he talks about people frauding the government. I purchased this book for pointers not complete garbage.
