Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of Eat to Live and The End of Diabetes, an unflinching, provocative exploration of how our food is killing us and the ways in which we are unwitting participants in an unprecedented and exploding health crisis.

Fast food is far more than just the burgers, fries, and burritos served at chain restaurants; it is also the toxic, human-engineered products found in every grocery store across America. These include: cold breakfast cereals; commercial and preserved (deli) meats and cheeses; sandwich breads and buns; chips, pretzels, and crackers; fried foods; energy bars; and soft drinks. Fast foods have become the primary source of calories in the United States and consequently the most far-reaching and destructive influence on our population. The indisputable truth is that our highly processed diet is the source of a national health crisis that is exploding into a genocide with unseen tragic implications.

Heart attacks, strokes, cancer, obesity, ADHD, autism, allergies, and autoimmune diseases all have the same root cause - our addiction to toxic ingredients. New York Times best-selling author, board-certified physician, nutritional researcher, and leading voice in the health field Joel Fuhrman, MD, explains why the problem of poor nutrition is deeper, more serious, and more pervasive than anyone imagined.

Fast Food Genocide draws on 25 years of clinical experience and research to confront our fundamental beliefs about the impact of what we eat. This book identifies issues at the heart of our country's most urgent problems. Fast food kills, but it also perpetuates bigotry and derails the American dream of equal opportunity and happiness for all. It leaves behind a wake of destruction creating millions of medically dependent and sickly people burdened with poor-quality lives.

The solution hiding in plain sight - a nutrient dense, healthful diet - can save lives and enable humans to reach their intellectual potential and achieve successful and fulfilling lives. Dr. Fuhrman offers a life-changing, scientifically sound approach that can alter American history and perhaps save your life in the process.

Stick to medicine, avoid white privilege!

What did you love best about Fast Food Genocide?

He knows what he's talking about. My wife was healed from rheumatoid arthritis following his protocol.

If you’ve listened to books by Joel Fuhrman and Robert Phillips before, how does this one compare?

First one I've listened to....read many of Dr. Fuhrman's books...my favorite is Fasting and Eating for Health.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I got angry listening to the garbage about white privilege. Why continue to peddle this to a new generation of black kids. You help them to emulate the likes of Sharpton and Jackson instead of Ben Carson and Senator Tim Scott...such malpractice!

Fast Food Genocide

I've read most of Dr Furman's previous books on health and diet so I was already very familiar with his health recommendations before reading this book (easily maintaining a healthy weight by eating in the manner he prescribes despite being in my late 50s). I did enjoy this particular book because I found it offered an interesting twist adding stories of past nutritional deficiency outbreaks and the lessons we've gleaned from them. Mind you, there were times the book did have the feeling of being a bit over the top tending to exaggerate some links between diet and history. Nevertheless, as long as you remember that correlation does not necessarily indicate causation, I think I'm safe in saying you still might be able to appreciate much of the nutritional wisdom offered.

Don't expect the food plan to be different from his other books. And do note, you will also find many familiar recipes. That may be troublesome to some, but it really didn't bother me. Again, the real downside was the smattering of extreme rhetoric that could be construed as a bit over the top.

Everyone needs to read this book

I didn’t know it was this bad! I’ve been a fan of Dr. Fuhrman for many years, and I lost 67 pounds on Eat to Live, but I put back on about 20 over the years. Sadly, I slipped back into fast food. You will be impressed and horrified by the dangers of fast food and will avoid it like the plague it is. Thanks, Dr. Fuhrman for saving lives.

Narrator needs to learn the pronunciations first

I am a big Dr. Fuhrman fan, and I follow his Nutritarian guidelines in my eating practices. I have almost all of his books. This book is interesting and thought provoking. My major complaint is that the narrator mispronounced so many words--particularly the medical words, but even many well-known words. It was very distracting. I am a bit surprised that Dr. Fuhrman allowed this audiobook to be published with all of the mistaken pronunciations. I would have preferred to read the print version of this book.
