Publisher's summary

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a national health crisis that continues to grow - yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and incorrectly treated illnesses today. Neuropsychiatrist Daniel G. Amen, MD was one of the first to identify that there are multiple types beyond just purely hyperactive or inattentive ADD, each requiring a different treatment. Now, in this all-new, revised edition, Dr. Amen again employs the latest medical advances in the field, including the largest brain imaging study ever completed on patients with ADD, to identify, examine, and demystify the 7 distinct types of ADD and their specific treatments.

With updated recommendations for nutraceuticals and/or medications targeted to brain type, diet, exercise, lifestyle interventions, cognitive reprogramming, parenting and educational strategies, neurofeedback, and more, Dr. Amen’s revolutionary approach provides a treatment program that can lead sufferers of ADD to a normal, peaceful, and fully functional life.

Sufferers from ADD often say, “The harder I try, the worse it gets.” Dr. Amen tells them, for the first time, why, and more importantly how to heal ADD.

Critic reviews

"Revolutionary...I strongly urge anyone with a family member who suffers with ADD to read this book.” (Barry Sears, author of The Zone)

“For parents of children with ADD, adults with ADD, therapists, and physicians. The subtypes Dr. Amen has firmly established will help clinicians everywhere tailor ADD treatments to each and every individual. One size does not fit all.” (George Delgado, M.D., FAAFP, associate clinical professor, University of California, Davis)

"I highly recommend this book to all who want the most up-to-date information on ADD from one of the most highly regarded neuropsychiatrists of our day.” (William C. Klindt, M.D., child and adolescent psychiatrist, clinical faculty, Stanford University School of Medicine)

So much helpful information

This is the most information packed book I've ever read regarding ADD. I've been studying ADD for 20 years, reading everything recommended to me. Because of the many different suggestions and treatments outlined, I've been able to identify my specific type of ADD and properly treat it.

A Must Listen

This book changed my entire perspective on my life. So much good, meaty, fascinating information! It really helped me understand my (and my family's) patterns of stimulation seeking behavior and helped me feel a sense of control over my feelings of impulse (overeating, contacting exs, compulsively checking my phone or staying distracted). It's definitely a pitch to go to one of his clinics, but if you pay attention and take notes just from listening to the book, you probably won't even need to spend a ton of out-of-network money to go to one of his clinics.… Why? His advice is sound, irrefutable advice: take care of yourself, don't beat yourself up, thoroughly vet while doctor shopping, and follow through with your treatments. He does an excellent job of empowering the listener to take their health in their own hands, and understand the inner workings of their own brain. LOVE IT!

Personally Revolutionary

This books has been exactly what I've been looking for and needed for the longest time.

I am amazed at the vast amounts of research, testing, and trials that have gone into obtaining the information/knowledge presented in this book. And not only that, but Amen's holistic and radically open-minded approach to learning everything there is to know about the brain is truly awe-inspiring.

Daniel even goes so far as to construct an entirely new way of looking at ADHD/ADD by outlining 7 (-to 8) different sub-types

Seemingly no aspects have been left out or unaddressed in the attempt to gain ultimate clarity into the ADHD/ADD condition.

Sleep, exercise, nutrition/diet, relationships, parenting, hypnosis, medicine, meditation, affirmations, spirituality

I am truly excited about digging into the details of this book in the near future.

Understanding ADD

Excellent book,we all need a brain scan. Many times we judge others, look down upon them, get frustrated without really understanding how their brain works and how their personality and everything they do is affected by it.This book really helps you recognize the symptoms and know what to do to help the person in need.

If understanding what you were looking for going out further

This book was extremely insightful. Sometimes it was a little wordy, and it’s technical jargon. This all made it a joy to listen to much rather than read. It is definitely staying on my keep list extremely informative and even after you listen to it the second time you find information that you missed.
