Not my genre

I didn't realize this was Christian fiction when I got the book. The story was good, I liked the characters but there were just too many references to God and whether you should believe in Him or not for me to really enjoy it.

But if that's what you enjoy when listening to books then you will probably enjoy this one.

Good, for a first novel, plus one.

This is a decent book, especially for first novel (I hope that is what this is). I look forward to seeing how the skills of the author progress.
I felt the storyline flowed, and there were a few twists and turns that were unexpected. I increased the rating by one star, because I REALLY appreciate a clean story! I also wish there was less romance and more of simply friendship building. I appreciate friendship building, but not everything rotates around love.

I don't have any problem with a story that adds Christian themes, and even though this does throw a little in, really it isn't much. Not compared to other books I have read.

The narrator seemed inexperienced, and (hopefully) will improve over time. There were several instances of mispronounced words, page turns are distinctively evident, and a few times that she repeated a sentence immediately after a brief pause. Speaking of which, there are several times, most of which were in the first part, where there were distinctively long, unaccounted for pauses.

Overall, I will try the next book in the series.

Page turning literally and figuratively

Great book! Very interesting and well written but the performance was not edited and in some parts repeated. You could also clearly hear the reader turning pages. Outside that it was great

Great story terrible narrator!

A narrator can make or break an audio book. This narrator was horrible. I read the book twice. It could not stomach to listen to.

Where's the rest of the Series?

I really liked this book, but the only other of the series of 11 on Audible is book 3. I prefer to listen to them in order. When will the rest be available?

Looks like a great mystery series to get into!

Overburdened by guilt and grief from the past, and frustrated by unfulfilled ambition, this Adult Child of an Alcoholic still manages to make life an okay place to be. She planned to work in forensic science, but has to make do with being crime scene clean up. Some of her attitudes and impulsiveness are characteristic, but that doesn't mean that she should be the target of attempted murder (more than once) or treated like a dimwit. She has some quirky friends, and there is romantic interest. Generally a really interesting read.
Janet Campus gives a great performance and adds much to already well delineated characters (pun intended).

A decent plotline poorly narrated

What would have made Hazardous Duty better?

More expression in the voice of the narrator. She reads almost every line in the same tone of voice.

What could Christy Barritt have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Made the heroine a little less pushy. Or given her qualities which made up for it.

How could the performance have been better?

See above. More expression and more sense that the sentences flow into each other.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Hazardous Duty?

Umm.. none come to mind.

Any additional comments?

Change the narrator and I might buy the next one.

Refreshing

Sometimes an author gets it just right! I do believe Christy Barritt has done it!
Characters that work together in a reasonable and hard to figure out cozy whodunnit.
Found a great new series!

Pretty good. Story was engaging and well paced. A good few hours of listening, but ultimately forgettable.

Fun story, distracting narration

I truly enjoyed this book, but I confess, I had to purchase the print version because I couldn’t handle the narrator. I’ve listened to dozens of audio books and I’ve never had to do that before. Mispronunciations, page turns and a recording that on occasion sounded like she was in a cave.

Good clean mystery

Any additional comments?

I downloaded the book of this story on my kindle and wasn't even half way through before I was looking to see if you could buy it as audiobook. I was so glad to find that you could.

I have listened to it many times as it is a nice little mystery as wiell as nice like able characters. With lots of twist and turns in the plot as well as laugh out loud moments.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story- interesting characters and plenty of twists to keep you guessing. I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author.

Pretty Good

Can tell it'd make a good series. Main character not reeeally my cup of tea (a little corny for me...personal preference though) but written well and narrated perfectly.
