Publisher's summary

"Hawke is a fast-paced adventure...truly an exciting listen", says Nelson DeMille. "Rich, spellbinding, and absorbing, Hawke is packed with surprises", raves Clive Cussler. Listeners beware, this stunning, high-caliber thriller is not recommended for the faint of heart.

Lord Alexander Hawke is a direct descendant of the legendary English pirate Blackhawke and highly skilled in the cutthroat's deadly ways himself. While still a boy, on a voyage to the Caribbean, Alex Hawke witnesses an act of unspeakable horror. Hidden in a secret compartment on his father's yacht, Alex sees his parents brutally murdered by three modern-day pirates. It is an event that will haunt him for the remainder of his life.

Now, fully grown and one of England's most decorated naval heroes, Hawke is back in the same Caribbean waters on a secret mission for the American government. A highly experimental stealth submarine, built by the Soviets just before the end of the Cold War, is missing. She carries 40 nuclear warheads and is believed to be in the hands of a very unstable government just 90 miles from the American mainland. Hawke is in a race against time. His mission: Find the deadly sub before a preemptive strike can be launched against the US, and confront the murderous men behind the personal nightmare that haunts him before they find him first.

Featuring breathtaking action, international intrigue, and a hero worthy of the very finest adventure fiction, Hawke heralds the exciting debut of a bold new talent.

Forget the Kettle One

Ted... Kettle One for their martini.... If I were Alex, I would reconsider my feelings for this woman....I'm sure, with all of Alex's wealth and dining experiences he never heard of Kettle One....and with his fiancee's $$$ background and father's drinking habits, I'm sure she never has either.

Story was overly long, boringly Tedious.

Not even remotely believable. Narrator tried his best, but in the end, just not a good tale.

Fun and relaxing

Wonderfully performed and entertaining. Light reading: reminiscent of swashbuckling honor and manliness. Humorous in the right spots as well.

James Bond???

I felt it was a very good story. Hawk is a likable, funny guy but what really brings this story to life is John Shea. As a narrator he is second to none. I was totally entertained.

Great narrator as to how can do different voices

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes some of characters every other word out of their mouth was cursing. Good stories do not need to rely on such filthy language to make a point.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hawke?

Remembering his parents murder and men who committed it

What does John Shea bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His ability to do different voices, and accents

Could you see Hawke being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

no

Pleasant surprise

I was between books and saw this and decided to give it a try. WOW! The action starts at page one doesn’t stop. The story line is a really good one and the narrator is amazing. The variety of character voices John Shea can do and all the accents amazed me along with emotions attached to each, he really brought this story to life. I was so happy to see there are many more books in this series and all with the same narrator.

Exciting!

Love the narration. Having an actor do narrative is great as he is good with accents and intonation.

Annoying

Pretty weak story and annoying narration. I wouldn't waste your time on this one for sure.

Good story, but…

Good storyline, but so much cursing my ears hurt. If you don’t appreciate GD and JC in every other sentence, you won’t like this. Won’t buy more by this author.

Enjoyed the book very much and had a nice time listening to it

This is a fun book to listen to, and very well read and written. I enjoyed the storyline very much in the dry humor within the book.
