Inspiring content for anyone

This book is an excellent reminder as to the fragility of our spirituality. The author takes you through her life as mother and wife and how she struggles and works at her prayer life and the balance between time for God and time for her family.

Outstanding Book Poorly Edited For Audio

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World is an insightful look at a heart that loves Jesus.

The books audio format is hard to navigate. Instead of breaking the book into clean single chapters so readers can move back and forth, someone took the quick road of putting two chapters per break. That means a 12 chapter book only has 6 chapters in audio. To get to the chapter you want, if it is the second one on that break, the reader has to listen through again the previous chapter before getting to the intended portion of text. It's just lazy, confusing editing of a great book.

Not quite relatable

The narration was well done and I can tell what the intent of the book was meant to be, but it didn't really connect with me. Our small group is made up of career women in their late 20s/early 30s who are without children. We read this book for the summer. We all struggled to connect and relate to it as it seems to be written very specifically an audience of stay at home moms in the mid-west who are very actively involved in all areas of church service and are therefore more focused on the actions of serving Christ than the heart of it. Many of the stories and lessons seem to assume that is where you are in life.

The book itself often meanders with stories and doesn't bring it back to the point. Additionally, the author often tells fictional stories of what may have just happened in that bible character's thoughts or previous life experiences. These are meant to help us relate to biblical characters, but the stories are adding to the biblical text something that isn't stated and often feels historically inaccurate just to try and make her point and to allow a connection to our current Western ideals.

This book may be very meaningful to someone that wants to focus more on finding an emotional connection to biblical characters and is trying to balance church service with raising children. I just don't fit that demographic.

I normally don't write these types of reviews, but I had wished that someone had written one like this to let our group know that we weren't really the intended audience for this and therefore wouldn't enjoy it.

Wonderful

I had heard many friends recommend this book but didn't think it would be something I could relate to but I was clearly wrong. It hit home more times than I'd like to admit. Well worth it.💕

Loved the honesty

This author wrote from a place of honesty about her shortcomings, her lack of perfect practices (including housekeeping skills - THANK YOU!), and struggles with her faith, and really encouraged me that I can start where I am and that God will meet me there. Really enjoyed it!

Must Read!!!

This book is life changing. I have enjoyed every chapter and I can't wait to share it with others. I plan to do a ladies small group on it.
It's mind transforming with the right amount of encouragement and challenge. What a refreshing view of day to day life and the importance of knowing God intimately.
