Publisher's summary

Another nightmare, in the woods this time. Different: She was running. Trying to escape. But the same ending. Always the same ending. Another dead girl….

Emma Rayburn was born and raised in Baron Hollow, North Carolina. It was a quiet life, then came the accident … and the nightmares - each filled with unshakable visions of darkness, blind panic, and desperate women chased toward inevitable death. With no reports of local women missing or found dead, Emma has written it off to troubled imaginings - night after dreaded night. Until her sister arrives.

Jessie Rayburn, a psychic investigator for a firm called Haven, has been estranged from Emma for years. Unresolved issues from Jessie’s past have not only kept them apart but have been clouding Jessie’s unique abilities. A return to her hometown to face a dark and violent incident from years gone by is her chance to regain them. But reconciliation with the past comes with a price. Few people in Baron Hollow are welcoming Jessie back. No one dares to breathe a word. And in this conspiracy of silence, Emma’s nightmares are becoming more vivid than ever.

Even with the help of Noah Bishop, head of the FBI Special Crimes Unit and cofounder of Haven, Jessie and Emma soon find themselves outnumbered by the secrets buried in Baron Hollow - and outrunning an evil that has been festering for years, one that’s targeting Jessie and Emma one last time.

Its Like Returning to Old Friends

I always enjoy the Bishop Special Crimes Unit novels; or before the Special Crimes Unit, the Bishop FBI stories. Like fine wine they only improve with age. If you like this genre, they are never disappointing.

Fun story.

If you could sum up Haven in three words, what would they be?

An entertaining reading.

Have you listened to any of Joyce Bean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I hadn't heard Joyce Bean before but really enjoyed her voice and tones.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was sometimes challenging to find a part to stop at.

Any additional comments?

Interesting story with fun, likeable characters.

Another Kay Hooper hit!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read her entire Bishop series and love the books. Great stories, interesting point of view, enough suspense and danger, and a little love all thrown into one.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, Kay always has me wanting to flip to the end of the book to make sure it turns out okay, so I tend to not be able to put the book down. Listening to it made it easier for me to get through it even quicker!

Would you listen to another book narrated by Joyce Bean?

Joyce does a good job changing voices for different characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, there is a major plot twist-that's all I'm going to say!

Hooper Never Disappoints

Kay Hooper always keeps me on the edge of my seat - and this one really surprised me!! Joyce Bean did an excellent job narrating and I'll look for her again.

Exceeded expectations

I thought this book would be a simple spookiest with ghosts like “The Sixth Sense”. It was more of a mystery a bit like Hitchcock’s “Spellbound”.
I liked the story as a whole though I figured out the villain midway through the book. The only problem I had was too many psychics in it but since this series is based on their presence I can’t be too upset.

a bit unusual

unusual and unexpected ending. Not the normal ending for one of Kay Hoopers books, but refreshingly different.

Love this series but... This one missed the mark

This was not the best one. It had actions by characters I didn't find believable. Loved the rest of the series so far though.
