Didn't realize this was an abridged version.

The first chapter gave an overview of what to do each day of the week to change your children's behaviour. Unfortunately, the more in-depth explanation and practical application of how to implement this program seems to be missing. The last 3 chapters are just an alphabetical list of possible situations and how to handle them. They are very brief and simplified and because it is in alphabetical order it doesn't really follow a logical order.

I was a little bit disappointed not realizing that I had purchased an abridged version.

Possibly better as a book to read vs. audio?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes! The information is great and very usuful. Leman's advice is spot on and has helped me raise my boys.

What other book might you compare Have a New Kid by Friday to and why?

Parenting By the Book! IT'S MY FAVORITE PARENTING BOOK SO FAR!

What does Wayne Shepherd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

well...this is my issue. Wayne did a great job...but I feel like the book was better written for READING versus LISTENING.
The sequence of advice was hard for me to follow because the book jumps around a lot from age group to age group. I got lost...pretty often. I was also distracted by my kids, I'm sure....but if I was reading, I could have underlined important facts and taken notes on things that struck me! I'm gonna have to listen again to really retain all the info.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

as a mother of 6, life is crazy, but this works!!

with 6 kids 12 and under, I know how busy life can be. if this method is not working for you, I have hard news. it's you, not the method. it takes some self examination. and sometimes, big life changes. we owe this to our kids, ourselves and society. I wish I had a stash of this book to anonymously hand out. I really think people want to do the right thing, we just get weighed down by our own emotions, pride and selfishness.

Gets right to the point

I have never read a book that got right to the helpful parts immediately. I love how concise it is. We parents have precious little time, and when we pick up a book like this it is because we are needing answers. I started reading this when I was in crises mode. It made sense to me, but was incredibly hard for me to implement. Way harder than I thought it would be. I can't dismiss the wisdom just because I'm not immediately good at applying it, so I am going to be patient with myself as I figure out how to apply it to our situations. I've been doing some things a different way for almost 17 years. Reading this requires some humility; always a good thing to have.

Good one

I recommend this. Good information. Good balanced approach that makes sense. It isn't a whimpy parenting book - do what ever feels good. Not too crazy - just good discipline and rules.

A Parental "Must Read"

This book is amazing. No one gets an instruction manual when you have kids, but this book sure comes close. It is a great guide in healthier decision making. It helped me feel like my thoughts and children's behaviors were normal, which put me at ease and helped me to feel less stressed out.

Every parents teaching manual

This book puts it all into perspective! After listening to the book I see why I need to change and where. I feel empowered, because the changes is not very complicated, and most of it will also make ME a more responsible human beeing. I will Grow up, along with my children!

Overall Good

I really enjoyed this book. i have a fiery, opinionated 2 year old and need to reign her in! Some things were not helpful in the moment (like piercings and tattoos) but I can see it down the road. I've already started some of the things and shared them with my husband to change as well. Again, very good, easy read.

Fantastic Book

The concepts in this book were basic and clear. I especially loved how he used examples from children of all age groups.

It was a good lesson plan.

It was a very good lesson plan, especially after it was summarized. I I had to listen to it a couple of times because there was several repeated topics. it was not a very organized book. I think the chapters should have been set by age group or even buy problem categories. the different scenarios are not very organized. I think the chapters should have been organized a little better instead of several repetitions throughout the chapters.

written for writer not for readers

struggling to finish: categories mixing age groups of kids don't make sense at all, even if you have multiple kids they have age: 2 and 7 for example, why would you be interested in advice for bathing covering togglers and teenagers in the same section? seems like author was trying to make best out of his dissertation notes not taking readers perspective into account.
