Publisher's summary

It's like you are in a slow-motion car crash. It's as though time has stopped on a dime. Your eyes are wide open in fear, your body is as stiff as a dime-store mannequin, and your mouth is open in terrified awe, but no words come out. You can't believe this is really happening to you because you have never believed in the paranormal before. Until now. But now you do believe, because you have just seen a ghost. Or have you? That's the big question, isn't it?

In Haunted Heartland, author David Boyer has assembled a vast and intriguing collection of real-life ghost stories that will make non-believers question the existence of ghosts, as well as thrill the true believers. In the end, whether ghosts really do exist - or not - one thing remains the same in our culture; it's about having fun with friends, telling stories, and the enjoyment of pretending they are searching the edge of the unknown. After all, everyone loves a good ghost story, right?

Just ok

This wasn't my favorite book but was worth the read. The stories were short but overall it wasn't scarey.

Perfect for wet cold fall nights.

I enjoyed the tales. The performance was good. Not heart pounding but good. It’s listenable. I think if you don’t get into the audio the read the physical the stories are the star.

Excellent! Real encounters with ghosts in an engaging story format.

This is exactly what I have been looking for. I love ghosts stories that are reported as true, and believable. Usually, when I find a nonfiction ghost audiobook, it’s in a scholarly research format. That’s also interesting, but not as good for long car rides or when I’m in bed, snuggling the cats. These are actual engaging stories, like urban legends and ghost lore, but with more of a ring of truth. Like ghost lore, there is often a conflict and resolution to the story. There are modern parables, with lessons to be learned. Other times, why the events occurred is unknown, but that only adds to the mystery and leaves me wondering. I feel like I’m swapping stories of strange experiences with a friend or neighbor. I think it would be nice if there was a little more inflection in the narrator’s voice, to help cue me in to suspenseful moments, important details, and the different parts of the story. This would be especially nice to hold my interest and because I listen to stories like these when I am falling asleep, so I’m not at my sharpest. A little longer pause, or a sound in between stories, would be helpful, as well. On the other hand, I kind of like the narration because it sounds like a real conversation. Overall, it is an excellent compilation. I highly recommend it!
