Publisher's Summary

Even a demigoddess must have a weakness.

On the run from the coven she used to call home, Harley Merlin knows that Katherine’s power and influence are spreading like a poison. And she has no doubt that Katherine will follow through with her promise to torture and kill her friends, one by one.

Then Harley discovers that the key to her enemy’s undoing might be hiding in a familiar place - her parents' grimoire. With Finch, Wade, and Garrett by her side, Harley vows to steal Hester and Hiram’s final gift.

Liar. Rebel. Jail breaker. Why not add "thief" to the list?

Meanwhile, Jacob senses trouble brewing in the San Diego Coven, with their friends imprisoned and Levi’s thirst for power spiraling out of control. Amid the chaos, the magical detector is on the verge of completion, and Jacob meets a human girl who makes his heart race. But Katherine has plans for him. Oh yes, does she have plans....

Really enjoyed this series when I first started it

It just keeps going on and on and on! I want to get to the END! It's infuriating that Catherine continues to gain the upper hand over and over and over and over! It's annoyingly disappointing!

More Filler Than Plot Progression

I’ve enjoyed these books and the characters have been well written. However, this book did not seem necessary in the whole scheme. There was a lot of unnecessary exposition and too many pointless scenes.

Dual Perspectives

Not sure if I really like that the chapters change from Harley’s point of view to Jacob’s. I can understand why, but it’s not the same. The book is called “Harley Merlin.” So, it should stick to her. Plus, I don’t care about Jacobs love life or that he’s looking at boobs.

Loved this book

I didn't feel like I was force listening to this book. It flowed rymthmictly for me. There were some surprises I didn't see coming but enjoyed nevertheless.

After so much. So, so, so, so much. I give up.

Here is an analogy. After the blind date that your mother set you up on cancels three times, they finally meet for the date at their families restaurant. They keep putting plates of horrible food in front of you, that you eat to be polite. Now you are stuffed with a meal that you did not enjoy and you leave the restaurant and there is two feet of snow. You trudge 6 blocks to your car to realize that you left your keys on the dining table. You trudge back and get the keys and finally get back to your car, which doesn't start.

The feeling at this point is how I felt at the end of this book. If I could drop a match in the gas tank of Detector Fix, I would.

I really enjoyed the Harley Merlin series in the first couple of books. Then the Katherine story line started. I was going on vacation and bought the next couple of books in the series to see how it turned out. Then it never did. The worst part is that everyone says they are going to kill her, but then they listen to her monologue for 20 minutes while she gets the jump on them. Ugh.

Harley sucks.

Start off by saying I love these books and can’t wait to get to the ending. But oh my god... Harley Merlin is THE worst protagonist I’ve ever seen. She’s written horribly. Everyone else is much more interesting and I find myself rooting for the villains anytime Harley is around. She just gets powers. She didn’t earn them or work hard for them. She just gets them. Also, anybody who disagrees with her is automatically a villain. And everybody just agrees with her. Even the smart and relatable characters get dumbed down just to satisfy her needs. She’s a horribly written protagonist. Also the author clearly doesn’t know how to write strong woman without it seeming forced. The narrator does such a phenomenal job that I can look past a lot besides Harley.

Aggravation at every turn

Poor plot progression, unexplainable plot twists for the sake of drawing out a 5 book series to 9 books. Will not waste more credits on the last 2 books. I’ve had it with this one. Emma Jean is Katherine? It’s not even a clever twist, it’s just stupid. All to draw out the final confrontations.

Very disappointed

Each book you hope the characters will grow and mature and do things differently but they do not and they keep failing . The villain continues to get stronger and winning. I feel like the end will be a weak win and no realistic

The narrator is very good .

Too drawn out!

I initially enjoyed the first few books but the story is far too long and drawn out with lots of repetitive 'dialogue'. I almost reached the point where I wanted to skip chapters just to get to the end. I will persevere to hear the final outcome but won't bother listening to any more. The narrator is outstanding. She is an excellent actress.

A rollercoaster

This book had many dull slow moments, which at times felt super unbelievable. The ending though was SUPER strong and there were a handful of gripping moments. One of the weakest ones thus far but worth getting to the end for the climax!
