A reluctant witch. A mysterious murder. A dapper dog with magical intuition.

Arabella Blackwood's magical abilities are a lot like her houseplants—neglected, but not quite dead. After a childhood spell-gone-wrong, she's perfectly content selling organic veggies and brewing coffee in picturesque Port Havenwood.

Her quiet life goes up in smoke when a stranger publicly calls her a witch at the farmer's market. Awkward! Even worse? The woman turns up dead the next day, and suddenly everyone's giving Arabella the evil eye—especially the handsome detective who thinks she did it.

With her name to clear and only days to do it, Arabella reluctantly teams up with Marcel, a dapper French Bulldog with a fashion sense as strong as his magical intuition. Together they'll uncover small-town secrets, reconnect with old friends, and maybe, just maybe, dust off a spell or two.

Hardbacks and Hexes is the captivating first book in the Magical Bookstore Cozy Mystery series—where spellbooks hide in plain sight, familiars wear hats, and a reluctant witch might just discover that the magic she fears is exactly what she needs.

This story is a real disappointment because it has absolutely nothing to do with books or a bookstore. I seldom give poor reviews, but this book spends most of the time on descriptions of everything except the mystery.

Disappointing 😞
