Enjoyed it!

Fast paced with a good story. A great book for those times when you really need a distraction from reality. Engrossing, easy reading that takes you away and leaves you hungry for more. Really enjoyed it!

gloom is a very interesting character. The epilogue has me intrigued to find out what happens with the investigation of his wife and sign.

Loved IT!!!!

What did you love best about Hard Fall?

While it was short it was like a long episode of Criminal Minds. PT Reade put together a well rounded character who has to deal with his own issues while continuing to live his life. I typically don't listen to books of this type, but really enjoyed this.

What did you like best about this story?

The way that Reade portrayed the flaws of his characters and that they embraced themselves as they are. That he let them see what they needed to improve and didn't ignore their flaws or that people have flaws at all.

What does Jay Prichard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration!!!! OMG! As I said before I typically don't listen/read crime books, and so am not used to the differing type of narration, but I LOVED how Jay Prichard put the character into his first-person perspective narration. It was just narration, it felt like we were the voice in his head.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were times I laughed, I have a pretty strange sense of humor though. BUT I was enthralled with the book. It lasted me through one train ride, the main time I listen to audiobooks (other than dog walks) and I was honestly upset that the story was as short as it was. But I think there was not a safe way to extend it so Reade was true to the story.

Any additional comments?

An action packed novella!

I quite enjoyed this dark and gritty novella. It is a mixture of thriller, noir, and hard-boiled detective all nicely wrapped together into one well written story line. Thomas Blume is an enticing character, too, being a former cop from New York turned vindictive alcoholic PI stranded in London England. I think my only issue with this story is that I often forget that it is set in London… London is such a vibrant city, but there are barely any details in this book that make that aspect stand out. Nonetheless, the delightfully resentful protagonist along with the well written action scenes outshine the lack setting.

As for the narration, this is the first time I’ve listened to a book narrated by Jay Prichard, and wow! I hope he will narrate more hard-boiled PI books in the future, because his gruff voice is absolutely perfect for it, and he really did an outstanding job giving life to Thomas Blume! However, I need to note that he does not do any British accents… which really contributed to my forgetting that this book is supposed to be set in London England.

Overall, I’m impressed with this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone out there looking for a high action thriller/noir detective story that isn’t several hours long. Hard Fall is immensely satisfying despite its short length!

Perfect

'm not a person who tells you the story in my reviews rather if it's a good story to me, the development of characters, good triumphs over evil in a semi realistically with some heroism this novel for me does that.

A Start To An Action Packed Detective Series

Thomas Blume is on the case as a PI in London. Someone has murdered his family and his only way of coping is trying to solve unsolvable crimes.

The former NY detective, Blume must chart his way among citizens as well as a police system that he is unfamiliar with to help others as he works through his anger and grief.

A twist at the end sets this story in a direction that most will not see coming…

PT Reade weaves a challenging narrative in the first book of the series.

Jay Prichard is fantastic, as he performs the gritty Thomas Blume as well as the many other characters we get to meet. He is a professional and takes us into the heart of Blume.

I did have a little bit of trouble keeping everyone straight, however this is par for the course [I find] with almost any first in the series book. The author needs to introduce characters that aren't relevant now but will be relevant later on.

There are a few curses and descriptions of violence, to those of you who would like to avoid such things. For the style of book in the genre, it is in these things are very mild when compared to other work.

Interesting First Book of Series

The case and characters in this novella were interesting. I liked the ending and how he figured it out. I wish that it were a full novel though. There wasn't a lot of background given, which I'm sure will come in the next books of the series. I felt like I was really getting into the story & then it was wrapping up.

The narrator, Jay Prichard, was good for the character. The character seemed cynical and it came through in the narration.
