Publisher's summary

A deluge has flooded the high ground near Hanging Falls - but heavy rains aren't the only menace descending on Timber Creek. While on a scouting mission to pinpoint trail damage, officer Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner, Robo, stumble upon a body floating at the edge of a lake. Robo catches human scent, which leads to an enigmatic forest-dweller who quickly becomes suspect number one.

With help from veterinarian Cole Walker, Mattie identifies the victim and discovers an odd religious cult whose dress and manners harken back to the 19th century. As the list of suspects grows, an unexpected visit from members of Mattie's long-lost family sheds new light on her childhood as they help her piece together details of the fateful night when she was abducted at age two.

The tangled threads of the investigation and family dynamics begin to intertwine, but darkness threatens to claim a new victim before Mattie and Robo can track down the killers.

Can't Get Enough Of Maddie and Robo!

Hanging Falls is the latest release of Timber Creek series by Margaret Mizushima. I swear each novel is better then the one before. Ms. Mizushima continues to take readers deeper into the life of Maddie Cobb and the family Maddie and Robo are building around them.
The mystery and suspense is non stop. The action has you holding your breath as you wonder how Maddie and Robo will ever survive!
The love affair between Cole and Maddie heats up in this installment of Timber Creek. And with it all the troubles that come when a single dad tries to introduce a new love into his busy life. Margaret Mizushima is not afraid to address the darker issues of life. This is especially true in this novel with the topics of religious freedom vs. the rights of children, plaligmy vs. "spiritual unions" and human trafficking are discussed in detail. As Maddie learns nothing is as black and white as you might want it to be. Except that one comamandment even the secular world agrees with :
THOU SHALL NOT KILL!

Great Story

I love this book series! I have become attached to the characters and can’t wait for the next book.
The story provides mystery until the very end and I appreciate a wonderfully told story without bloody gore, graphic sex scenes and crude language.

The narrator does an excellent job as well.

This book blew me away!

When I first started this book, I was thinking it was going to be a stupid cliche book with a person that doesn’t know anything about dogs and the dog is a brilliant dog that just amazingly knew stuff no training...but I was so wrong. This book was definitely true to dogs personality and nature, the training methods true to real life, the situations ver realistic, and I throughly enjoyed the story. Couldn’t put it down! It really isn’t a “cozy” mystery, not silly or cliche, but in my opinion, it crosses over to the “thriller” side without going overboard.

A good read, but not such a great listen - again

I enjoy Ms. Mizushima's K-9 series with Mattie, Robo, Cole and crew. Ms. Mizushima manages to weave together Mattie's concerns regarding meeting her long-lost sister and grandmother around Mattie's investigation of a homicide (or two) through her boyfriend's sometimes tenuous relationship with his teenage daughter. It is a lot to handle for Mattie yet Ms Mizushima keeps it all moving along at a comfortable and a bit suspenseful pace. I like that I can listen to this series without wincing or worrying about gratuitous violence or that caring relationships blow up. I finally have decided, however, I will read in ebook format the next book in the series. I cannot seem to move beyond Nancy Wu's very soft narration which continues to feel out of sync with the nature of the grittiness of homicide detective investigations. Additionally, due to this soft, whispery narration I must continually remind myself Mattie is a strong woman and not a spineless female Ms Wu's narration dramatizes.

Another great one

I honestly thought I had figured out the murderers really early and was disappointed but knew I’d still enjoy the story even if I’d figured it out. When it turned out I was wrong, I was thrilled at how things had turned unseen corners. Really looking forward to the next in the series!
