Publisher's summary

As the War for the Realm of Life continues, Lord-Castellant Lorrus Grymn leads the battered remnants of the Steel Souls warrior chamber against the sargasso-citadels of the Verdant Bay. The Hallowed Knights claim victory, but at a terrible cost - Grymn is lost to Realm of Chaos.

Now Gardus, newly reforged and fresh from the destruction of the Scabrous Sprawl, must lead his warriors into the foetid heart of Nurgle's realm in search of the Lord-Castellant, where they must once more brave the horrors of the Realm of Decay....

Soooo One Sided!

I am sitting here in awe at just how one sided this book was. I really like black library books but this was single handedly the worst one Ive ever experienced. Narrator was great as always, but unless you want to listen to a story about the stormcasts bullying their way through Nurgles garden, stay far far away. Its a boring and fairly repetitive story and I never felt that any of the named stormcasts were ever in any danger....... just really bad

Well Written Hammerporn

Reynolds has the rare talent, shared to date only by C. L. Werner, to write Nurgle spectacularly. That makes it a shame that he completely neuters him in the same breath. It's well-written no doubt (outside of the Deus ex machina), but it's also noblebright hammerporn where the good guy wins with no loss or even real damage sustained. They go against a God in his own realm and come out shining and pretty with a good story to tell back at home with all of their friends.

Unless your a stormcast fan. This can be meh...

The battles are so one sided in the stormcasts's favor that it removes any sense of danger for the characters that would normally make these kind of books interesting or suspenseful. Feels like a missed opportunity. I gave it 3 stars solely for the reader. I loved the way he voiced Gutrot.

Predictable, not worth my time.

Go replay an old videogame or bing-watch cartoons with the time you save: it will be just as productive.

Really enjoyed this.

There’s some great lore in here including a chaos lord redeemed to become a stormcast. I wasn’t a stormcast fan until I finished this book. I loved the performance of the servants of Nurgle most.

Characters are fantastic

At first I didn't like the Stormcast, but I had the boom and I figured I'd read it. And boy, when I tell you the characters I their book are great I truly mean it. I didn't really like nurgle or Stormcast going into this book, and now The Stormhost of the Hallowed Knights and the Nurgle followers of specifically The order of the Fly are some of the most compelling and engaging characters I've read in quite a while.

Thrilling

This book adds so much meat and bones to the plague garden. Through a journey into the very realm of Chaos. Diverse and imaginative this book could make a hit movie trilogy in of itself.

Festering wounds

Do you enjoy filling your head with images of pus, gangrene, boils, sores, filth, rot and decay? If so, read this book because that’s what most of this book concerns itself with. Had the story and characters been awesome, it still wouldn’t have been a worthwhile trade, but with that part being mediocre, this book is a dark slog and a waste of time.

Incredible Depiction of Nurgle’s Garden

The narration was excellent, the details of the terrain and character development were phenomenal. The story itself had a very cool arc and was coherent. This was my introduction to the Age of Sigmar, absolutely impressed.
