Story
For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

Story
This is one of Lovecraft's most beautifully written and frightening stories. It is written from the perspective of a surveyor, who, while surveying a rural area that is to be flooded near the town of Arkham, comes across a mysterious, abandoned farmstead, which is completely devoid of all life. At the center of the farmstead is an old well. The site fills him with an unnatural sense of dread, and, as it turns out, there is good reason for that feeling.

Story
At the heart of these stories, as with all the best of Lovecraft’s work, is the belief that the Earth was once inhabited by powerful and evil gods, just waiting for the chance to recolonise their planet. Cthulhu is one such god, lurking deep beneath the sea until called into being by cult followers who – like all humans – know not what they do.

Rough
I am interested in this title but this audiobook is not well done. The volume is so low that it is nearly inaudible in some places. I was able to make it through the first story. The other stories I gave up on. I was not able to hear and was tired of replaying every few seconds to figure out what was said. This is not one to listen to in the car.

A technical mess
I got this for the amazingly low price of 66 cents. Wasn't worth it. There has been absolutely no audio processing done to this audiobook. Some chapters are far too loud, but most of them are so quiet that even with my tablet or my external Bluetooth speaker cranked all the way to maximum it's still kind of hard to make out. And some chapters bounce back and forth between nearly inaudible and ear shatteringly loud from one sentence to the next. Whoever produce this audiobook needed to, at bare minimum, at least normalize the volume. Functionally, I would go so far as to call this audiobook broken.
As for the narrator, I don't want to bash him too hard. He has a pleasant enough speaking voice, but as alluded to above, half the time you can't hear what he's saying. When you can, the problem is that he doesn't have any emotive range. This is going to sound snarky but I don't mean it that way - he's got a fantastic voice for instructional videos or documentaries, or something of the like. But these stories are the foundation of cosmic horror that the genre has been built upon over the past 80 years or so, and the narrator reads them without any trace of fear, or dread, or any other emotion that puts you into the story. It's a dry, matter-of-fact reading that does no favors to the text itself.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this compilation at any price.
Edit: there are multiple readers. Some, the audio mix is so low that even with my tablet at max volume, it's barely audible (no pun intended). Other readers have better audio levels, but are reading this iconic horror with the same nonchalant attitude one might read microwave instructions. The end result remains the same - this is an extremely low production value presentation, unworthy of the text itself. Remains a strong recommendation to avoid.

what isn't good is the voice actors.
stuttering, misreading, not reading with passion. its bland performance straight through.

Narrator is horrible
I like Lovecraft but the narrator for this is horrible! Very little inflection in his voice and it makes it very difficult to get through. I am usually very stubborn and will complete something like this just to say I finished it. This was so bad I couldn’t even finish the first story. Sucked. Would love to be able to return this but I can’t. I am glad it was cheap.

Wonderful Stories, Very Poor Reading At Times
You get what you pay for. This is 48 hours of what seem to be one-takes where the narrator is tripping over his own words every 45 seconds, making it very hard to immerse myself in this reading. Of course H.P. Lovecraft's material is excellent, but it's just a shame that seemingly so little effort went into making this a quality reading. Worth $3, I guess.

Well worth it
I thought it was a joke when I saw this collection but I purchased it, and I'm very happy. Its a great collection that's easy to listen to, my only complaint would be that the narrators could of done some more retakes due to little flubs. But that's no problem as it's rare and they do a very good job overall. For the price, you can't complain.

Worth the 2$ I paid, but far from perfect.
The stories are avesome, some complain the voice puts them to sleep, for me it's not an issue cause I listen to one chapter daily before going to sleep, and thus also the sometimes bad quality doesn't annoy me either, what does, though, is the massively changing volume levels, it's like the microphone is dangling on a cord closer and further from the reader. Still worth the price they charge, for 50h of avesome stories, even though you can hear it free on Spotify for example, I'd still pay for this cause it's more convenient.
ps. anyone having trouble downloading it like I did, just enable multi part downloads in the app settings.

Who flagged the end?!?
The chapter listing shows 166 chapters in this title, yet somewhere in the mid-sixties (during the ancestral portion of the case of Charles Dexter Ward), the "Rate this Title" page comes up and time remaining ticks into the negatives... I don't know how many hours there are left; but it's going to be hard work when the app keeps resetting me to the beginning whenever I leave off.
A few doubled lines are dotted throughout, and the pronunciation is not perfect; but this is Lovecraft, one expects as much.

Excellent writing, terrible performance
I love the work of H. P. Lovecraft, but the shockingly bad voice performance of this version made it practically in usable.

Poor audio and performance
I've just gotten up to Call of Cthulhu and I've noticed that there are currently two readers, the first although good in terms of audio quality, his delivery is mundane. The second guy offers a better quality of performance but the audio quality is all over the place, with the audio being mostly bass and the gentleman getting quieter as he begins to mumble making things like descriptive sequences almost inaudible. I would have waited this out till the next story but this was a big issue going through Colour Out of Space and now Call of Cthulhu. It leaves me worrying about the other big name stories in this audio book.

Excellent stories
I really enjoyed the stories, and Lovecrafts imagination is superb. His use of English is a little peculiar, especially his abuse of the word "cyclopean". The readers, also seemed to have no idea how to pronounce some of the words also. Despite all of this strangeness, (strangeness in a Lovecraft anthology - whoda thunk it?), it is a reallu enjoyable listen.

fantastic story, frustrating to listen to.
Love these stories but I only gave it 3 stars because the reader needs diction lessons. There's a lot of mumbling over the difficult words and he has a monotone voice.
At first it didn't bother me, but after 4 hours it was like nails down a chalk board.

On two different devices, it says "download corrupted", after numerous attempts over several months. Please fix.

Volume issue.
This might be wonderful but I'll never know, this is stupidly quiet. It's really difficult to hear. I've tried listening in a room with no other noise in the dead of night and still struggle to hear it a few feet away. The writing may be brilliant, but I can't tell.

can't argue for the price
over all it's a pretty good listen. some of the reading is stumbled or a little quiet but for the price you can't really complain.
