Henry Fields is an unsuspecting young man who has just moved to the small, quiet town of Gable, Iowa. After finding a job and a place to live, he quickly establishes himself as the friendly and reliable "new guy". Despite being elusive about his past, local hometown girl Claire Mathison discovers an irresistible attraction to Henry. But major trouble begins to brew one night, and it soon becomes unclear whether Henry Fields is part of the problem or the solution. Filled with psychological drama, suspense, and thrills, Grey Areas is the debut release from Brad Carl. (Please note: This book is the first of a four-book serial.)

Would you consider the audio edition of Grey Areas to be better than the print version?
The audio version certainly added a layer of texture to it.Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The whole book is a fast-paced, edge of your seat, thriller. It wasn't hard to stay tuned for the whole two+ hours. I listened to it during my commute to work.Which scene was your favorite?
Where we find that Henry (more than likely) has a history with weapons. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The killings were shockers.Any additional comments?
Henry Fields is a man with a past, looking to disappear into a place where no one knows him. Unfortunately for him, small town Iowa is not about to cooperate -- perhaps out of scorn for strangers or the past that doesn't want to leave him alone. Despite all the goodwill of the folks of Gable, Henry is thrust into a nasty situation with only his wits to save him.The smooth voice narration of Brad Carl adds a palpable layer to this already fantastic book. As an ex-radio personality, Brad is the the consummate professional. Most folks might be turned off by the thought of the author reading their own work as the productions often turn out to sound "tinny" or "airy", but this was, without a doubt, recorded in a professional sound studio. Superb sound quality!
Brad Carl, an Iowa native, knows his world and characters first-hand, and thus they are a realistic extension of his knowledge. Fantastic world-building and characterization lead you through this work. They create a place as realistic as any movie screen without the dogged stereotypes that Hollywood or non-native writers might attach.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Grey Areas?
The car accident where Henry saved a man’s life as well as the man’s severed limb. What does Brad Carl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Brad Carl captured every nuance of each character and painted the backdrop of their environment with his narration to near perfection. Brad Carl is a prime example of why authors should read their own work. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The tentative relationship between Henry and Claire along with their witty banter “moved” me throughout the story.Any additional comments?
Brad Carl has done a phenomenal job at crafting an incredibly compelling story. Grey Areas pulled me in from page one and wouldn’t let me go until the cliffhanger (hooked me and left me salivating for book 2) on the last page. The rich characters and dynamic plot with it’s twists and turns carried me through this impeccably narrated piece of literature so well, that I felt I was walking along side Henry Fields, the book’s protagonist, as he navigates the NOT so simple small town that he hoped for. Grey Areas is the perfect beginning to this four-book saga. I’m starting book 2 this evening and am looking forward to picking up where Henry Fields and I left off.A must listen for audiobook lovers!
