Publisher's summary

After wiping out an entire black witch coven on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, Rue can no longer afford to have a laissez-faire attitude toward the Maudit Grimoire. Its black magic is infecting her, and it's leaking into her familiar bond with Colby, poisoning the loinnir with its thirst for violence.

A trip to the fae realm ought to be just the ticket, but any hope for a quick fix dies when a message arrives from High Priestess Naeema. Her daughter has gone missing, and she expects Rue to find her. As much as Rue wants to help Naeema, can she afford to put off disposing of the cunning book yet again?

Contains mature themes.

Another great book

We are now 7 books into this series and it still feels like we are just at the tip of everything. This is a series that I can step away from in between books and it is not too hard to then jump right back into this world.

This book has the gang dealing with several issues at the same time - the biggest one being the fact that the "book" has somehow infected Rue and seems to be bleeding more and more of the darkness into Rue. Unfortunately, Rue's bond with Colby is at stake and Rue is terrified that it is going to eventually impact Colby.

In the middle of all of this, Asa has to deal with a kidnapping of someone extremely dear to him, Rue is faced with a circumstance where Colby's actions may or may not have had some type of maliciousness behind it and then at the end, Rue has to make some awful, awful choices.

A lot happens in this book, quite a lot. Somehow though, I was able to follow all of it and not be confused or feel left out. As usual, even though we tie up most of the strings, we just get more things that make us want the read the next book in a hurry.

The ending of this one was hard. Really hard. There was a sacrifice made by someone that is going to have long lasting ramifications. So, like I said, it's time to go and find book 8.
