Just Don't

This felt like a bitter parent was lecturing me about going to school and that without school, I'd be nothing in life. It would have been much more helpful to mention school once or twice, not pounding it in, then providing the best real ways to find money for design school and building a portfolio...tips for teens from families who aren't going to be any help to get them there.

Are there really people in life that believe people cannot learn and function without school? I'm absolutely for school. But a lot of my irritation with the art world is that it's felt a completed degree is the only way to gain respect. A person, I believe, is quite capable in a great deal of self-education, experimention and personal growth. This book made me feel irritated towards art education and the art world. Sure, it absolutely speaks to someone with NO artistic ability-a beginner to anything creative. But had I read this at 17, deciding on a career after a youthful journey of artistic endeavors, it would have not helped me at all.

like a biased lecture

it was hard to listen to the guy say "graphics designer" over and over. mostly about what the job is.

waste of time

All this book did was talk about how you “need” a degree to be a graphic designer. It did not reveal any secrets and it was misleading in that the title and summary portrayed itself as a book that would show you how to graphic design when you don’t possess a degree in graphic designing. If I could get a refund I would. Very disappointed.

Misleading Title

There is almost nothing in this book about the meat and bones of a graphic design career. Spends 35 minutes explaining why you should go to school for graphic design

Propaganda for academic graphic design pursuit

A wonderful book that I found to be developmental and maturative for a young man coming of age such as myself. I found this book highly relatable and generally intelligent and I further highly recommend this book.

A great book
