"...but now do we love Christ."

What made the experience of listening to Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners the most enjoyable?

This work is a balm to the terror stricken soul and bids every to soul to pray for mercy; "perhaps there is hope for me also."

What did you like best about this story?

If anyone agonizes over the assurance of their salvation, blasphemous thoughts, the unpardonable sin, temptation, sin, attacks of the evil one, or any other ill that attacks the soul of man in opposition to salvation and the glory of God through the person of Jesus Christ, then "Come ye who fear God and I will tell you what He has done for my soul!" Truly indeed, here in this book is "a wonderful system of education."

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

Simon Vance is John Bunyan. I have listened to this work a dozen times and plan to listen to it a dozen more. I can't listen to any of his other works because all I hear is "Come ye who fear God and I will tell you what He has done for my soul!"

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"O Love that Will Not Let Me Go"

Compelling Personal Testimony

John Bunyan's open, honest and self reflective testimony is very compelling. His letting us into his personal thoughts, especially those which expressed doubt, were greatly appreciated as we all experience them. Greater is his commitment after the doubt, which provides encouragement to the reader.

Like a mirror

Never in my life have my own doubts and fears been laid out in the words of another as have been in this discourse. To know that I’m not unique and that there is nothing new under the sun bids me fly to my Jesus with no delay and rest in him in every way.

John Bunyan struggled to receive Grace

John Bunyan terrorized himself nearly his entire life because he struggled with whether or not he had properly received the grace of God. I found very little encouragement from this book, because Mr Bunyan didn't truly understand how simple it is to receive grace. My experience with God's grace has been dependence upon it, first and foremost, and from there, empowerment, freedom (from the power of sin), overcoming, stability, confidence (in God). John Bunyan's was nothing of the sort. He lived in fear, depression, anxiety, enslavement. There was so little in the book about the true power of God's grace, I really couldn't recommend it to anybody.

Encouraging and Insightful

John Bunyan’s confessions of internal spiritual turmoil and striving serves to open the door to godly honesty amongst Christian brethren and echo what C.S. Lewis said binds together true friends. “What? You, too? I thought I was the only one.”

Wonderfully encouraging

I loved everything about this book. I wish it kept going. It has refreshed me and encouraged me in so many ways. I was able to identify much with the battles in his though life. I recommend that every Christian read this book.

An Unlikely Witness For God

I began this book in love with the language of Bunyan and his time but it has become a cherished part of my salvation in Christ.

Nothing Like It

John Bunyan was a pillar for Christianity. And still is. One in Christ never dies. The beauty of this book is he voices every possible fear a believer has, though one wishes for the fervor that Bunyan had. I know that I’m lacking so often in his desperation for a Christ I’m sad to say. But he ends up back at Grace which is where it begins and ends. His joy in prison is just a marvel. His writings Never cease to amaze and move to the depths of the soul. This is one to listen to over and over. And the perfect Simon Vance is icing on the cake. Thank you thank you.

It can only be done with Jesus

By no strength of our own do we carry out the Father's will, but by his Spirit. Bunyan's last realizations about his condition, the seven deficiencies in him and how those deficiencies make him dependant on the Lord, are true from what I have experienced myself in this life. Praise God for his mercy! Without the grace described in John 3:16 we are utterly lost, but again, praise God for his mercy!

Remarkable

I've attempted to read this book a number of times but fell in live with this narration.
A most remarkable life, well lived and well told.
Narration is apt for this and it makes for great listening.
