This is an exceptionally good MUST READ book...

I really enjoyed this book. It's the first in the Jack Widow series and I can not wait to listen to the others on Audible so far. I could be wrong but it seem like Jack Reacher was used as a template but there are enough variations to make this character his own.
Widow is a fleshed out and believable character. He begins his journey while on leave from his position as an elite NCIS for the marines.
He's called away from his duties when his mother, a Sheriff from a small town is shot in the head. Following an argument 16 years earlier, he hadn't spoken to her but arrived in time to make peace with her before she died. Now he feels it up to him to find out who murdered her and why, but his downfall may be a beautiful woman.
I really enjoyed the fluidity of this author's writing. There were no lulls in the story and enough details are given to create a very realistic feel to the story.
Alan Philip Ormond is a new narrator for me but one I will certainly be looking for in the future. His narrating is top notch!
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

I like Widow.

I really like the character of Widow. He is smart and the typical rouge ex-military guy. It was a little slow however the picture was painted very well with all the detail. Widow’s mother is murdered and he takes to the streets and hitchhikes as a nobody to find the culprit. I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next Widow book. If you like Jack Reacher, you will probably like Jack Widow!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It started a little slow for me but, after the first chapter or two I was deeply invested in the story and the characters. I was reminded of the Jack Reacher novels several times while listening to this book....which, IMHO, is a huge plus. As with the Reacher novels, there's a lot of action, adventure, mystery, suspense, etc., and little to no sex scenes. I found Jack Widow to be a very likable hero/drifter/vigilante, and I will most definitely be listening to all of his upcoming adventures.
Alan Philip Ormond did an amazing job giving each character a unique voice. I was very impressed with his performance and look forward to listening to more of his work. I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

Good action adventure story

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was an entertaining and well narrated action adventure story. It definitely had a Jack Reacher feel to it but mixed with Walking Tall. I'd definitely be open to more from this author/narrator duo.

A Good read / listen

Jack Widow is an unusual character and you never know how he's going to react to a particular situation. He is full depth and his humanity is on show. I look forwrd to more of Jack Widow.
Well written storyline with a good pace.
Narration is clear & concise and is easy listening. The narrator helps to build tension in the story and moves the story along in the slower sections.

Loved This One!

So enjoyed book one of Scott Blade’s “Jack Widow” series. Inspired by Jack Reacher, it follows similar lines. Very entertaining, fast moving, with an excellent, well chosen narrator. Alan Philip Ormond fits the book perfectly with an excellent voice and pacing..

A black ops former Navy Seal gets a call that his mother, a Sheriff, has been shot. That starts him on a totally different path than he’s known before as he decides to find out for himself why she was killed. A small town may hold the answers, but it provides him far more questions and way too many suspects. Still, he will persist until satisfied.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. I was excited to find it in audio and now look forward to listening to more of the series as they are released. You can find my full review on Mystery Suspense Reviews.

Great story. Great listen. I highly recommend you give it a try.

Move over Reacher!

OK first let me say that I hope Scott Blade penned the first of many in the series. This book caught me up at the first paragraph and did not stop until the very end. Jack Widow seems like he carries the genes of a famous but unnamed father. Who knows how that will turn out. This my first book narrated by Alan Philip Ormond and it will not be the last. His voice carried each individual character and clearly delineated each one. A stellar job. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review but in all honesty, I would gladly have used a credit on this one.

Sooner or later, the past always catches up.

Sixteen years earlier, when Jack Widow was just eighteen, he and his mother had argued and he'd left his small town home not to return until now, his mother in hospital, a bullet in her head. She was the local sheriff and someone had lured her to a deserted point in the road, shot her and left her to die in a ditch. Jack had been in the Navy, then a special ops unit of the SEALs. He was going to find out who killed her, and why.

This first book in a new loner-drifter series (think Lee Child's Reacher) is well written and, at times, almost poetic in it's atmospheric descriptions of both place and the inside of Widow's head. Told in the first person, it is an easy book to read, the sentences short and uncomplicated, like the man himself. But seeing through his eyes it is easy to empathize with him.
This is further enhanced by narrator Aden Philip Ormond's excellent interpretation of this lead protagonist. The reading is well paced, not too fast, not too emotionally imbued but just right for the military trained loner rediscovering his past and his understanding of just how much he owed to his mother in the last precious moments they are able to have together. Her death is his new beginning as sets out in search of her killer. With expression and good intonation, Orson's pleasant rough velvety voice also gives individual life to each of the other characters in the book also. Writer and narrator in harmony together.

Although this is a thriller, the main focus of the book is to establish the character of Jack Widow. Several other of the protagonists are also given a three dimensional appearance, also, but none as clears as Widow himself. The story which projects him into the world in this adventure is initially intriguing, if a liitle predictable towards the end and the fight scenes felt fully believable. Jack is good but he's not superhuman.

My thanks to the rights holder of Gone Forever, who freely gifted me a complimentary copy, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. The production was good with just an occasional word unexpectedly missing but nothing to inhibit the enjoyment, whilst the text and narrations seamlessly worked together to give an inclusive picture of a new hero to watch out for in the future. Recommended.
