Publisher's summary

Mrs Tim goes to the Highlands of Scotland and is involved in a plot to rescue a naval officer from the toils of a siren; but, alas, the best laid plans "gang aft agley".

The characters are skilfully drawn, from the fierce Mrs London, with her heart of gold, to the garrulous Mrs Falconer, whose muddled stories of her girlhood make excruciatingly funny reading.

The house party amuses itself with picnics and fishing excursions and is suitably thrilled by the flourishing ancestral feud of two rival clans, which has its origin in the dim past.

Mrs Tim Goes to Scotland

This is the second Mrs Tim book, and I would recommend you are familiar with Mrs Tim of the Regiment before you start on this one. I think anyone who didn't know the series would be lost if they started here, as it is assumed you are familiar with the characters and situations. This is a very gentle story, which I enjoyed listening to for the most part. Not a lot happens: Mrs Tim goes off to the Scottish Highlands for a holiday with her friend, and that is about it. I would have preferred it if the narrator had made more effort to voice the characters; there are a few half-hearted Scottish accents here and there, but none of the characters really come alive. Probably best suited to fans of the author.

Mrs. Tim Entertains Again!

What did you love best about Golden Days?

As a long-time fan of D.E. Stevenson, this is a wonderful new way to enjoy her stories. Mrs. Tim is a great favorite of mine, and this tape is the second half of the American title, Mrs. Tim which involves her adventures in Scotland and where we meet Guffrey. Like many of novels, characters appear and reappear in her books. Many of the characters are here in this book and it is fun to listen to the story complete with the appropriate English accents.

The book is easy to listen to, and very entertaining all the way through.

What about Hilary Neville’s performance did you like?

Hilary Neville's performance is very good. I liked hearing the slight change for various characters in her voice, but it was always clear and easy to understand.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

D.E. Stevenson's books are quite amusing, but also speak to the heart of who we are. We all have similar characters in our life and it makes it more interesting as we decide how we would have handled the situation as we learn what Mrs. Tim does in a situation.

Any additional comments?

I am certainly looking forward the rest of the D.E. Stevenson books that are available.

Really good book.

This book is fantastic, but if you have read Mrs Tim of the Regiment, you have already read this book. I’m not sure why it is separated like that...very confusing.

Travel to Scotland

I have only one fault to find with this delightful audiobook that allows the listener to share Hester Christie's (Mrs Tim) trip to the Highlands of Scotland. And that is the fact that the first part of this book, Mrs Tim of the Regiment, wasn't included as well. That introduction to the characters would have strengthened the work. However, everytime I listen I find myself traveling on that train with Hester, and fishing in that Loch, and swimming in the sea.

Included in Mrs Tim of the Regiment

This is a great book and well narrated (though I prefer Lesley Mackie) but you probably already own it. It is listed as book 1.5 in the Mrs Tim series because it is the second half of Mrs Tim of the Regiment (Mrs Tim, Book 1) with the same narrator. You really shouldn’t miss the first Mrs Tim book, so...
