Publisher's summary

"An utterly charming opposites-attract-story. Hovland perfectly balances simmering sexual tension with a surprising amount of emotion, and the stomach-flip-causing ending is the perfect example of why I read and love romance." (New York Times best-selling author, Lauren Layne)

Number-crunching Velma Johnson's perfectly planned life is right on course.

That's a lie. Sure, she's got the lucrative job. She's got the posh apartment. But her sister nabbed Velma's Mr. Right. There has to be a man out there for Velma. Hopefully, one who's hunky, wears pressed suits, and has a diversified financial portfolio. He'll be exactly like, well...her sister's new fiancé.

Badass biker Brek Montgomery blazes a trail across the country, managing Dimefront, one of the biggest rock bands of his generation. With the band on hiatus, Brek rolls into Denver to pay a quick visit to his family and friends. But when Brek's sister suddenly gets put on bed rest, she convinces Brek to take over her wedding planning business for the duration of her pregnancy.

Staying in Denver and dealing with bridezillas was not what Brek had in mind when he passed through town, but there is one particular maid-of-honor who might make his stay worthwhile.

Velma finds herself strangely attracted to the man planning her sister's wedding. Problem is, he ticks none of the boxes on her well-crafted list. Brek is rough around the edges, he cusses, and doesn't even have a 401(k). But trying something crazy might get her out of the rut of her dating life - so long as she lays down boundaries up front and sticks to her plan....

Going Down on One Knee is Book One of the Mile High Matched series. If you love a hunky, tattooed wedding planner, this book is for you. Buy now for a fun, opposites attract romance!

A great book and series!

Going Down on One Knee is the beginning of a great series! I had previously read the eBook and really enjoyed it, so it was fun to listen on audiobook. The story is fun, sweet, and

I liked having two narrators so Velma and Brek truly had their own voices when it was their POV. The narrators did a really nice job bringing the characters and story to life. I believe they also worked on the next two books in the series and I am hoping to listen to those soon too!

Cute

Very cute story. Loved this story about Velma and Brec. Their story from beginning to the end is so cute, then sad then sweet. I would recommend this to anyone who likes sweet funny books that you can’t put down.

Laugh-Out-Loud Funny!

What do a financial planner and a band manager have in common? Not much, except for hot chemistry and a wedding. Brek and Velma have an off-the-charts, super-charged attraction that leads to a slow-boil romance. Combine that with the absolutely hilarious idea of a biker-dude brother taking over his sister’s wedding planning business and you’ve got an incredible romantic-comedy.

Velma has always been the good girl in the family. She works hard, and she has totally bought into the idea of algorithms and safety nets not only at work , but also in her personal life. Brek rides into her life on his motorcycle, and he messes with her tidy, little life. He is muscled and inked; his life is about the freedom of the road and the headaches of managing a rock band. According to Velma’s algorithms, they’re all wrong for each other, but love isn’t about the math.

Her sister marrying his best friend throws Velma and Brek together. I adored the silliness of the everything-that-could-go-wrong mishaps that they face in their wedding planning events. Dealing with Bridezillas is apparently much harder than keeping a bunch of rowdy rockers in line while on the road. I crack up just thinking about a long-haired hunk dealing with place setting and floral decisions. The troupe of secondary friends is fantastic. I hope Ms. Hovland considers writing spin-off stories about some of these characters. I loved the bro-banter between Brek and his friends, especially Jase.

This well-written story is perfectly paced. The title chapters reference the timeline before and after the biggest, most important wedding Brek is planning. There was just the right amount of angst and an utterly adorable conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed Christina Hovland’s Going Down On One Knee.

Mismatched Narration

I would have rated this audiobook higher, but I didn’t like the male narrator. The female narration was excellent, but the male narrator didn’t flow. I was distracted by his overacting and his voice just isn’t great for an audiobook.

Slow burn, Loved the build up

I was really surprised that I went through this audiobook so quickly. Slow burns aren't usually my favorite thing but it worked for Brek and Velma. Velma is completely opposite in her life than she is with her work. She seemed so fierce and determined but the life changing event with her sister really messed with her perspective on life and love. Shes meticulous and serious. Brek is not. He goes with the flow on his motorcycle working with rockstars. This is a live Velma's never seen. Change seems to shake her up. Brek has an immediate and strong attraction to Velma. Velma feels it to but she puts up a good fight... poor girls doesn't stand a chance against Brek's tattooed body with tight shirts, ripped jeans and leather... plus, he cares. He's a softy under all that leather.

Anyway, I enjoyed the narrators so much! Lance Greenfield could play any man. He has this strong baritone that works for Breks biker persona. Neva Navarre was a perfect Velma. I loved how flustered Velma got and I could just feel and hear it all in the narrators voice. It just made the narration for me!! I'm looking forward to book two in the series, Blow Me Away!!

Brek & Velma

Opposites attract, its true, and now Brek and Velma are proof of it! But this quirky, funny slow burning romance is so much more than that. Christina Hovland has crafted a story that will make you laugh out loud, make your heart hurt and put it all back together in a low angsty, fun listen.I love her writing style, and the characters she created are so easy to relate to. Velma believes there is an algorithm to finding your soulmate, and with her excel spreadsheet is on the mission to find him. Brek is not high on that list, but he makes her heart beat fast and his touch is sizzling. So what to do? Trust your instincts or trust the formula? I found Velma easy to relate to, everything orderly and organized and Brek just doesn't fit the mold. Brek is an incredible man, willing to help out in all situations and just all around wonderful. I love how Hovland weaves their story, slow and deliberate, with hints of love and lots of frustration! It's so much fun you don't want to miss it.

The narration just takes on a life of itself with this narration team. Neva Navarre and Lance Greenfield bring it all to life, with each quirk and each emotion. They are seasoned storytellers and find the exact inflections that just make the story come to life. It's a pleasure to listen to them.

An okay listen.

The male narrator sounded much too dramatic, it made listening to those parts almost painful. He has a great voice, very sexy, but it sounded far too dramatic.

A MOST IMPRESSIVE & COMPELLING ROM/COM

This was a new to me author and so, with my fingers crossed, I hoped it was going to be an entertaining worthwhile story.. and I was very pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained by two polar opposites who warmly pushed n pulled their way to a HEA. There’s Velma who’s a very organized, prudish, analytically minded Manager of Investment Portfolios with a five year romance plan and the fiery, handsome, sexy, ‘go with the flow’ tattooed biker force of nature that was Brek Montgomery.. Manager of a rock band. Complete opposites.. a free-spirit never wanting to settle in one place - and a woman with her feet planted firmly in one place whose goal is centered on finding the ten out of ten man who ticked all of her concisely structured well-thought-out boxes. Never going to happen.. right!?.. nuh uh wrong. Because this talented author brings them together, forces a timeline on them, mixes marital mayhem as they try to pull off being perfect wedding planners, throws in sexual chemistry, sexcapades, blurred lines, character growth and fun.. and voila, love disrupts their planned routes. But the wee bit predictable relationship strike hits hard, breaks hearts and delivers a devastating blow.. luckily for them (and us) though, this author believes in sweet happily ever afters.

Worth a credit? Yes it’s a fun, light, sexy well-paced slow-burn as Brek slowly shows tightly-strung Velma how to loosen up on preplanned goals, live in the moment, laugh at life, open her heart up to possibilities and realize you can’t control love with a system Great dual POV narration by Neva and Lance brought the characters, their feelings and their boundary pushing and pulling to life in the most delightful and endearing way. And the best part of all.. absolutely no credit is needed to put a smile on your face with this one.. because it’s offered absolutely free with Escape.. yay ;)

Delightful Listen!

Going Down on One Knee by Christina Hovland pulled me in immediately. I really enjoyed the characters of Velma (aka Velvet) and Brek. I found her spreadsheets and algorithms to be awkward at best, but added to her quirkiness. Neva Navarre and Lance Greenfield were wonderful bringing the characters to life. They had realistic emotions. This book has some unexpected humor, an original storyline, and a fantastic ending.
