I almost didn’t publish Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It. Here I was, a CEO who’d fallen apart after his company failed, writing a book about how loving himself saved him. I thought I’d be a laughingstock and my career would be finished. But I stepped through the fears and shared my truth with the world. The book went viral. Amazing people all over bought copies for friends and family. For some, this book saved their lives. For others, it was the first time they ever loved themselves.

So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

Everyone wants to be loved - to find someone who will stick with them through all of life's ups and downs, someone who is in it for the long haul. But in a world where dating is increasingly based on split-second decisions and geared toward casual relationships rather than marriage, it's easy for single people to feel discouraged, used, or unworthy of true love. Jonathan "JP" Pokluda wants to dispel the myths, misconceptions, and fairy tales you've believed about dating and replace them with the truth from the One who invented marriage and created you to crave a relationship.

Story
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Children today live in an unpredictable, disruptive, and often violent world. Many of them live in two different homes with different sets of expectations. They face bullying at school and online. They hear news of school shootings, and racially or religiously motivated violence. They may have lost a friend or a loved one. As parents, the impulse to protect our children is strong, but that very protection can end up handicapping them for life. Rather than seek to save them from the hard things, parents must teach their kids how to cope with and rise above their problems.

Story
What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Story
Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, is an expert in fatherhood - in part because his own 'fathers' failed him so badly. His biological dad was an alcoholic. His stepfather deserted him. His foster father accused Jim of trying to kill him. All were out of Jim's life by the time he turned 13. Isn't it odd - and reminiscent of the hand of God - that the director of the leading organization on family turned out to be a guy whose own background as a kid and son were pretty messed up?

Loved it
As a mental health therapist I read this book and saw with different eyes I guess. I loved it beyond words, regardless of the fact that I’m a big fan of Zachary Levi! It’s raw, it’s honest, it truly depicts what depression and anxiety feels like and how one many times triggers the other. I’ve been recommending this book to everyone, especially to those I know have endured similar parental abuse and symptoms. Didn’t mind the cursing, that’s just how he speaks (and so do I).

Profound and relatable
This hit the mail on the head for me. To hear it so clearly from someone else’s perspective helped me so much. I now am trying to make better choices in the words I use to my self and about myself especially out loud in front of my children. This showed me that generational curses of these types can be broken. It will end with me.

As a man who is currently in the nightmare of mental health breakdown brought in by a divorcing marriage, an abusive childhood and engrained destructive patterns of thinking and being in this world, I can relate to so much of what is being said.
My biggest take away, I am not alone, and I am going to be ok, so long as I do the work, the real deep dark work.

Amazing, uplifting story!
Zachary Levi telling the story of his struggle with mental health is what everyone needs to hear!
Even if you don’t think you need to hear it.
He is straight forward and real.
This is how the world should talk about mental health. It’s not a forbidden, shameful subject. It is real and should be discussed!

"All Out of Love" for yourself? READ THIS BOOK
If you are familiar with Zachary Levi, then you know the "performance" in reading his own work will not disappoint. Like the lovable goofball he is, he speaks clearly and with all the emotion his book requires. He gives each person a unique voice during the dialog to engage the audience as well as entertain.
This is such a real, raw memoir from Zachary Levi's emotional journey through mental wellness. Humans have always been captivated by a good story; from cave drawings to Voltaire to the next paranormal romance craze. Each chapter in this story, starts with a positive message followed by a smooth transition into a glimpse of Zac's both distant and more immediate past experiences. By the end of each chapter, I experienced reactions ranging from, "Holy sh*t!" to "What the f*ck?!" to trying to collect my jaw up off the floor. He explains his point of view very eloquently, leaving himself vulnerable to the ruthless, albeit hurting, social media critics. He explains that his faith, which is rooted in Christianity, played a major roll in his healing process, along with several different types of therapy specialist including a nutritionist, life coach, and fitness routine. More than one approach is required to healing mental trauma. This is not a "pray-the-depression-away" book. Zac acknowledges other beliefs and comes across as supportive of whatever you choose to believe or not believe. I also feel it worth mentioning how respectfully he wrote about his past romantic relationships. This story's purpose is to help each of us to understand, accept, forgive, and love each other. And it starts within yourself. We're all broken, in one way or another, and we all deserve grace. We all deserve love. Unyielding, no-strings-attached, radical love.
