Publisher's summary

The first installment in the Road to Babylon series from Sam Sisavath, author of the Purge of Babylon series.

FROM THE PURGE, A NEW BEGINNING.

It's been six years since a terrifying breed of seemingly unkillable creatures emerged from the darkness to topple the unprepared governments of the world, in the process knocking mankind down the food chain.

Survivors called it The Purge.

A few brave souls rose from the ashes of the old world to fight back, often against overwhelming odds. Led by indomitable heroes, they risked everything to achieve a final, stunning victory over the supernatural "ghouls" in The Battle of Houston.

Five years later, what remains of the ghouls have fled back into the shadows, and humanity now resides in isolated communities in relative peace. But human ambition and greed have also survived, and with no laws to stop those willing to pursue them, it's every man for himself.

Keo, one of the unknown heroes of The Battle of Houston, has found serenity in a small town in Texas. But he will discover that a violent past is not so easily cast aside when a madman rises to dominate those around him, and in the process shatters Keo's new life.

It's a brave new world, but monsters still exist - and thrive. And where there are evil deeds, good people must rise to stem the tide...on the Road to Babylon.

Ok. Needs more umph.

This selection could use more plot development. It is clear that the author knows how to weave a story together creating some memorable characters, but he needs an editor and a willingness to create one good book versus small serialized portions. Even with this short entry there is not enough action and character development to carry the plot along much less leave the reader hanging with a big cliffhanger at the end...actually not even a cliffhanger, just a to be continued mess at the end.

I grew to like a few of the characters, especially the main one. But, most of the characters were very generic and I could careless what happens to them.

The narrator is ok. I actually really like his voice, but he doesn’t have the versatility to carry all of the characters.

This could have been so much more. Many unique ideas and good premises, but the execution sucks.

No plot?

I limped through this book set because I used a credit for it. I wish I hadn’t it was hard to keep my attention on it.
